Check out the book, "Stranger in the Woods." That guy spent 27 years completely alone. He loved it. Only spoke one word to another human during that time. Saw somebody on a hiking trail about half way through and said, "Hi."

Incredible book and story.

No kidding. For Rockwall county, now 9 deaths, huge COVID infection rate of Staff and patients at Broadmoor Medical Lodge in Rockwall. I have been there many times a year ago. It is in most cases, the final train stop. The 9 deaths for Rockwall County ALL occurred at this facility. Who the #&^!@ brought the China Flu to this facility? Thanks again China for this lovely gift you recklessly gave us. ALL 9 deaths in Rockwall county out of 96,000 people came from this facility.

Like Bob said it's either a push to get them out of a hospital setting or the last train stop for them. Most of those facilities are under staffed both in trained and in numbers. Usually one Doctor is over all of the patients. And they usually are not at the facility. Not sure what can be done about this. We don't appreciate our elders like other Countries. Like several have said on here it's time for them to die and leave the living to live.

Logan's Run effect. One way to get rid of a bunch of us olds.

After the first episode of this at that nursing home in Washington State when all of this started, who in the world couldn't immediately see that elderly and sick folks were at a huge risk?

There's only 2 reasons for this that I can see.

1. CDC, NIH & local leaders are 100% completely inept.
2. It is semi intentional for whatever reason

Both of these are inexcusable. I am hanging a lot of hope on people being held accountable, Cuomo is high on that list.

The facility/community that my folks are in, in Kansas, was locked down when Washington State got their first outbreak. Their retirement center has 2 bedroom "independent living" for the able bodied, apartments for the less abled, and nursing home for the even less able. They haven't allowed any of the elderly to make contact with the outside world since the start of February. They have a staff member that goes shopping for all the residents and delivers to a loading zone. That staff member never comes in contact with other staff or any resident. The items are sanitized, then delivered to the residents. They have had Zero cases. It is an extreme measures example, but it has worked for them.

They showed a good graph on the news this morning. Collin and Denton county both looked to have peaked in early April and have decreasing numbers. Dallas and Tarrant are still going up.

One of the links you provided a few days ago said that over half the people that go into a nursing home die within the first 6 months, and that was before the wuhan flu. I think that number pretty much explains itself.

This has been posted before, but definitely something to keep in mind. An additional $8k to state Covid vs garden-variety pneumonia as cause of death. If you get them on a ventilator it pays $39k.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...ovid-19-patients-coronavirus/3000638001/

"Hospital administrators might well want to see COVID-19 attached to a discharge summary or a death certificate. Why? Because if it's a straightforward, garden-variety pneumonia that a person is admitted to the hospital for – if they're Medicare – typically, the diagnosis-related group lump sum payment would be $5,000. But if it's COVID-19 pneumonia, then it's $13,000, and if that COVID-19 pneumonia patient ends up on a ventilator, it goes up to $39,000."

So we think a meaningful number of administrators are committing felony fraud by falsifying death certificates for an extra 25 grand? Also worth noting there are 6000 hospitals in this country so the average hospital has seen very few deaths at this point.

Yes, I think there is a lot of room for blaming a death on Covid when it may not have been the primary cause. In some cases, maybe even encouragement to over-report Covid deaths.

The way diagnosis codes work these days is determined by electronic medical record companies and their programs.
Physicians put up a significant fight to avoid transitioning to EMRs for multiple reasons, including this one.

The government, medicare, insurance companies, and hospital administrators pushed hard for EMRs, not for better medical care (they make medical care more difficult and cumbersome) but for their own agendas. EMRs have mutated an easy to read four sentence follow up note that clearly communicates what is going on in a 20 second reading into a five page monstrosity of useless information that takes thirty minutes to read, without clearly communicating the patient's status.
If a nurse, a physician, a respiratory therapist, anyone mentions a COVID-19 work up in their note, some of the EMR programs will automatically place a COVID-19 diagnosis code in the medical record.

Procedures and diagnoses get re-coded by the back office to maximize reimbursement all the time. Nothing new. Just another unintended consequence.
