National Geo. has a program/yearly series called Wicked Tuna, a reality program with boats in competition to catch the most valuable $ bluefin per season. A buddy of mine over on the Big Island, Hawaii had it on last year while I was working over there (making art), and he gets cable (we don't). That's how I found out about it. It's a bit like the Deadliest catch as far as excitement, not as dangerous, but very cool. Going after 300 to 1,000 # bluefin tuna with conventional gear off the coast of Maine. Was not on Amazon nor Netflix, so decided to ck YouTube, yippee, it's there. Perfect if confined to home, even if not. Somehow I started with season 5 (it has every episode, have to search a bit sometimes), and just finished some 14 episodes (about 40 minutes each). They (about 6 boats) fight to see who makes the most money per season (fish can net a few hundred per, to many thousands, depending on many factors, it's all explained).

I just found they made a series called Wicked Tuna, Outer Banks, it's cool too. Season 1 does not have many episodes, but season 2 or 3 does, just started that one.

Thank me later (let me backseat next time I'm close to your lake! ;/)

Would make sense, that guys is waaaay out there. The season I just watched he cut one other boats lines, what a scumbag. Glad one episode they put a giant banana in his fish hold. Think it's in the 'outer bank' series I'm now watching. Season 2.

those reels are un-real, how much would those cost? Geeze, a fish takes 400 yards and there's still line.

Do they get these BFT down near Texas?

Penn International 130 2 speed run about $1300 and hold over 3000 yards of 200# braid. The reel itself weighs about 10#. Fished for Tuna and Shark a lot as a kid off the coast of Long Island, NY. Hated when a fish grabbed the line on a 130, the 50's and 80's were so much more manageable.

The earlier seasons are Tyler's most entertaining. Obviously the show is highly edited and some parts are scripted (feuding, pranks, etc). But most of what happens amid the actual fishing is real. Fun show to watch.

Both shows are pretty entertaining. I fished for cod out of Gloucester back in the 80’s. We would fish with the Yankee Fleet who would make overnight trips to George’s Banks with a short stay over on Nantucket for dinner and refuel.
Back then there was a couple of young fellas that docked their 22 ft Mako CC with a barbers chair mounted in the stern in the same marina. These guys caught and sold jumbo bluefins pretty regularly. The buyers would come right down to their boat slip to inspect and buy the fish.

Not near as often as the right coast. They caught three last fall but they are not regularly caught in the Gulf.
This one was south of Louisiana.

One of the coolest fishing photos I've ever seen, such a sense of time and place, along with such emotion.
