Having been to a few too many packing plants, I read carefully when I buy ground beef. If it says reconstituted beef, then I I avoid it. Some of the pre-made burgers have reconstituted beef in it. You will know it when you smell it on the grill. It smells just like it does when the slurry is loaded into the tankers leaving the packing plant.

That being said. Many of the patties you buy are very good.

I don't even know what that is, but it sounds nasty.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Watch the fat content on the frozen ones. I cooked some for a church youth group that someone else bought and they were 70/30 and thin. Smoked like crazy as the fat started to heat and melt and the meat turned into the size of a sausage patty.

I've bought some to use at home from Kroger that weren't too bad. 80/20 mix and thicker than most frozen ones I've seen.

Better off to buy the fresh pre-made patties in the meat market area and freeze them. At least you'll know how thick they are. HEB has some good ones and Kroger now carries a prime content package that's good.

Premade, yes. Sam's has some really good pre-formed patties. I actually prefer cooking frozen patties, so it works out well. Precooked? Heck NO! But I do sometimes cook up a bunch and freeze some.

None of the meat you buy is that precise, so likely you've had it.

Agree, wife brought some “80-20” home one time and it was whiter than it was red, it was like jet fuel over the coals
