Mine only went up 5K, usually they go up about 30K per year. I am still going to fight them and hire a company, I have had pretty good luck so far using a 3rd party.

I was expecting 35k to 45k increase this year, I am gonna hit them while they are down

Living in Killeen. I have less than 4 acres in a floodplain that i cannot build on or use. It was assessed at $125 until year before last. Last year it was assessed at $4,114 and this year $31,000. Wonder what happened to:
SB 2 (Texas Property Tax Reform and Transparency Act of 2019)Starting in 2020, most taxing units, including cities and counties, will need voter approval to increase their property tax levies more than 3.5 percent.
This was one of the key measures approved in SB 2. I appealed last year as many others did and all were rejected.

Will protest again, but expect same BS result.

Seriously have to consider relocation.

Today is the last day (May 18) to request a protest. Funny how mine arrived today. They make as hard as possible to protest. Just another way to screw people.

Actually you have until June 1st if your in tarrant county!

I have a modest, 3-bedroom brick home in OK worth around 50K. My property taxes have been running around 200 bucks a year. What would the taxes be in TX?
I'm just curious about the difference in states.

Depends on the county, Denton is almost a percentage point lower than Tarrant. Denton County property tax estimator says $668 for the numbers you gave.

Uncle Bagster, first of all your home would be valued much higher if in a Texas metroplex area. Rural properties here tend to not have valuations jacked-up as much as those in/near larger cities. Real estate demand pushes prices up immensely, so your home could be valued at $200K or more in some Texas cities. The resulting taxes could be ~$5K in a city.

Don't ignore the fact that the value of his 3 bedroom home where it is would be vastly different. Denton County could be taxing that same home at $200K value if beamed over to Denton County.

No argument from me. But the question was "what would the taxes be" on the $50K home. I'm sure that the "beamed over" house would have property taxes of $3,500 to $4,000

It says this on plain English but as with any law they can also increase it more by a three part formula which includes improvements mine went up about 45% which I think is their effort to get it to true Market value after a history of low tax appraisals. Due to the 3.5% limitation and the over 65 exemption the increase in taxes frankly is a small amount. I,however, plan to protest based on the law. There doesn’t seem to be a category on the form to exert this defense to the rise in evaluation but I’m hoping the form is outdated and I can get just fall back on the new law.

My market value went down about 9K but my appraised value went up 6.5k. Not sure how that happens.

He asked about what the taxes would be on HIS "$50k home" not "A $50K home" in Denton County. He probably didn't get that an equivalent modest home would be valued at 4X in Denton County. I believe he wanted to understand what the taxes would be on his home if in Denton County, not a slum property.

They apparently smoke some good stuff down at the appraisal offices - statewide.

Guess they figure since everyone has been confined to their homes this spring that we have used them more so therefor they need to tax us more.
