Went out this morning to tweak my LiveScope more than anything else, but ended up catching some decent crappie. Most fish were caught in the main lake on timber, 30' of water, 20-25' down. Best baits were Bonehead Brush Gliders in Moon Dust and B4 Baits in Wicked color. Nothing really big....big fish was a 1.58 but most were in the 1.20 - 1.40 category. You won't have a problem knowing you got bit, as they knocked the fire outta the baits.

i would like to ask crappie guy a couple of questions. i just installed livescope. when you are in 30 foot of water are you using forward or down? also, how are you setting your gain, etc.? lastly the only flooded visible timber on lewisville i know of is in front of old dam. any knowledge you could forward is appreciated.

Flooded timber doesn't have to be visible above the water. Best luck for us has been in submerged timber. Use your livescope to see the fish.

Hey I’ve found that setting the gain should be a continuous process throughout the day....I would go to that timber you mentioned by the old damn first and use forward view. Put some trees on the screen and start adjusting....usually start around 70% and ease my way up....it changes throughout the day.....also I almost always use forward view but that’s just me.....I also go to sonar setup and adjust the other two while looking at trees. You can select low medium high and none while looking at the screen and pick what’s best.....just my two cents worth....I’m no expert but I am loving my Livescope!! As far as timber goes, there is a lot of submerged timber around the corner North to little elm bridge. It’s on the west side all the way to bridge....imagine a line straight down the middle to bridge....west side is timber, east side is clear....never fished it for Crappie though. I like fishing all the bridges with Livescope....

1. I just about always use the forward view (best view for standing timber). I seldom use down view (best view for brushpiles)
2. I find that shallower water requires less gain. Deeper water requires more gain. I usually run my gain between 62 and 68
3. If you learn to find timber that is submerged, you will be apt to find more fish, as submerged timber isn't fished as hard as timber showing itself above the water line. If you have a Side Image/Down Image graph, set your DI a few feet above the bottom depth, and set your SI at about 60' either side (remember the further out you set your SI, the less detail you'll have on images). You should be able to find all the timber you want, especially along submerged rivers and creeks.
