Haven't caught one since probably '95 or '96, fish there half dozen times a year. After the 1996 drought noticed a big drop in them and then after the algae kill they seemed non-existent there

Whitney used to hold all the smallmouth records for Texas. Still has most of the top 25 I believe

Over two and three decades ago Whitney was setting every state record for Smallmouth Bass in Texas. Amazing considering there aren’t any smallies in Whitney(anymore). One fisherman in particular was dialed in and catching the majority of them. Ronald Gardner fished(and guided) and much of his success came at night. Here is the top 50 Smallies from Texas. Clearly the 90’s were a banner decade for smallies: https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/programs/fishrecords/freshwater/top50_smallmouth.phtml

Well they finally broke down and put a hand full into PK this year, enough to feed the trash fish.

Good Smallie LJ. Don't understand why PK finally got some stocked, yet Whitney didn't. Whitney definitely has the better track record.

It seems when there is a tourney regularly on Whitney one will show up. We have seen a few over the years but nothing like back in the 90's. Ron Gardner was on fire and was the best in the business then. We used to chase them and it was actually nice to be able to target them. Wish they would restock and let mother nature decide how they maintain.
