Made the trip to Texana and struck out on bluegill. Not a single bite on worms even! But this guy was enjoying the sun. He was 5 to 6 foot.

The last time I fished Texana was a few years ago with Clayton aka The Wildman of the Navidad! He caught the little brother of the one you took the picture of!

The water was in terrible shape yesterday. Rains last week and the wind was howling. Even areas that don't muddy bad from the wind were muddy. Lake is 4 feet low and falling fast. Corpus Christi is taking water fast.

I don't have experience with gators in TX but I do in FL.

I went out with a FL Alligator Trapper once. These guys work with the state and they take problem gators. They get to keep the gators and sell the meat and skins. For every gator complaint they get they can take 5 gators out of the place the complaint is filed in. We got this guy out of a pond at a retirement community. It had killed a couple of small dogs and was seen edging up to a small child. It went just a whisker less than 9 ft. We took it on a handline baited with a nasty chunk of beef lung. It is still alive in this picture and you can see we taped the mouth shut. We got 3 gators that day with 2 being about 6 1/2 feet long and this one. Gator skin was going for $18 a linear foot and the meat sold wholesale for $2.50 a pound. Those gator trappers made pretty good money.

I kept the skull of this one and had it bleached out and mounted on a walnut board. It looks really cool on the wall of my place in CO.

The aligators have plenty of room now, Texana came up 3.5 feet from the rain earlier this week. But I'm sure Corpus Christi will suck it back down as soon as they can.

Hopefully Texana can maintain a descent lake level through out the summer months. thumb

Don't bet on it. Corpus Christi pumps it down as quick as they can.
