Since moving to Van Alstyne, i haven't been visiting ol Lavon like i used to. For some reason Texoma has got my attention these days. But anyway, i decided to pay her a visit yesterday given the most perfect weather conditions you could imagine. The morning started off a little slow as i was trying to get my bearings and figure out what the fish were doing. I eventually made my way up to the dam and boy was that a wise decision! The crappie are certainly up on the dam doing their thing. It was just one of those days where every little piece of structure you came across in 15' or less was just loaded with willing crappie. Fished from 9am to 12:30pm and boated 36 keepers. I don't have many trips where i'm tossing back keepers the last hour of fishing, what a blast! I have to give a shout out to Lane Palmer and his jigs. I was using his Thump Chubby in ghost minnow and let me tell you, these fish were killing that bait! So if you are looking to have some fun this week, get you some of Laner's Thump Chubbies in ghost minnow and head to Lavon dam.

I mostly fish Lavon, but only fish the dam during winter when the fish are suspended in open water. Were you fishing rock piles or are there brushpiles?

There is scattered brush all along it. It’s as shallow as 8’, and as deep as 30’. The best depth was around 10’, that’s where most of the big females were. They were probably more shallow than that early. The sun was nice and high by the time I got there.

And them that do sometimes won't know how to take him.

They were! But not how he described. No bites shallow, no bites at 10ft but caught a whole bunch in 16-20ft suspended 10-12ft down.

There are no fish in sonic pond EDIT: Except 1 20lb catfish

We went to Lavon today. WINDY!! Too windy to fish open water, We tried the dam but there were not many fish up in that area that we could find using both Livescope and a Heix 10. A few fish, but not very many.

We located several brush piles and saw quite a few fish, but only caught 5 or 6 keepers.

We talked to three different guys at the ramp when we were pulling and no one had very many.

Cloudy days are no good this time of year crappie fishing. Fishing is much better when the sun is out.

They were probably stacked in there during the full moon, but might already be moving out. I haven't been back since my last trip, so i have no clue what they've done. I just know they were in there like flies on dog doo the day i went and wanted to pass the info along in hopes that someone else could have an enjoyable day on the water. I'm not trying to stir the pot here, but most of the posts on this forum are, "hey look what i caught pics" and really don't have a lot of substance to them. I understand people want to keep their honey holes a secret, but heck why not share a spot every once in a while. I think we all know that the biggest key in having a successful day on the water is fishing where the fish are and putting the jig in front of their face.

Paul, it’s definitely not like it used to be. Big reason is there are over 112,000 members now and 90 percent of them just look and wait for reports or spots and go sit on them. I’m saying this because I have experience with this issue. Facebook is where it is at nowadays.

One of the few times I agree with you Nick. Give me sun and 100 degrees over clouds anyday.
