Do you store firewood outside or out of the weather such as under a carport or something?

I sore on racks (off the ground), away from the house (bugs/roaches), and a tarp over the top . Don't want rain going down through it it'll decompose faster.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

If I cut it now I'd store it outside, it's a long time until fireplace season and it's going to dry out a lot between now and then.
Rain won't hurt it.

I got racks of pecan, oak, and mesquite in the open. No covers here although wood is for smoker only.

Also have 2.5 cords at mom’s under cover. This was 1 oak tree that went down in the last storm in Quitman.

I have a couple of these from Amazon: They say they are 1/4 cord but they are a little smaller than that. Cheap and work well.

I have always though leaving wood on the ground was an invitation to copperheads. I see no need to cover wood as it should be used well before rot could set in.

Doesn’t matter how you store it.... needs to have a minimum of 15-20% moisture content to burn in fireplace to prevent excessive creosote buildup in flue system.. You can get a moisture reader on Amazon. Recommend not to store under tarp due to trapping moisture...

Diddo....tarp over the top quarter of stack so it drys...away from house due to termites...inspectors will tell you to move it away from side of house....

Outside, off the ground, covered with a waterproof tarp. The wood was stacked about 100 ft away from my house . I would uncover the wood during dry periods whenever possible. When I lived in Pennsylvania I heated my house with wood. I kept two years worth, generally 8-10 chords stored this way. This year’s cut was.next year’s burn.
