I have a Lifetime Teton Angler kayak and the netting on the rear has come loose in one spot. I’ve attached a photo below. Without having to replace the entire netting, is there any way to re-install this one where it came loose? It almost looks like you have to have something to crimp on the end of the cable that you can push through the hole that will expand and not pull back through. Or maybe a flat tab that you can attach the rope to the center of and slot it through.
Looks like the higher end kayaks don't use this type of setup for the netting, and I don’t really want to spend $80 + replacing all the netting with new ones and hardware if it is at all possible to salvage this one. Any ideas?
Without seeing the kayak in person, it's hard to tell for sure.
However, you should be able to do something like this:
1) Tie (or crimp) a long/skinny stainless steel screw to the end of the Bungie. Tie it in the middle of the screw so it creates a "T" on the end of the Bungie. Use a screw (not a nail) because the threads will grip the Bungie and lock it in place 2) Push the screw and Bungie into the hole. If you tie a knot, you may have to force the knot through with a flathead screwdriver. 3) Once through the hole, the screw will catch and anchor the Bungie in place
If the hole is too small for a screw and knot to pass through. You will need to modify the above with an anchor that fits. You might be able to simply tie a fat knot on the end and then force it through with a screwdriver. If you do this, it should hold under normal pressure.
So I looked through all the hardware I had and actually found a cotter pin that I was able to crimp onto the nylon cable and slot it through like you suggested to do with the screw and it seems to have worked! The cable feels really snug in there like it’s supposed to and looks factory new.
