I love my Shimano Stradics but it is hard to beat the Pfleuger President at their price point. Smooth reel, holds up well very well. Do not get a Shimano Nexave. Got one when I needed a reel and could not afford the Stradic. There wasn't anything really wrong with it, just nothing like the Stradic or even the Pfleuger.

Shimano™ Stradic Ci4 Spinning Reel! Excellent choice Nowhere near his $80 budget. True 200-209 new on ebay... I dont think the bps ones I quit using because they are so heavy are even $80 or less..

I wouldn't give $80 for a pickup bed full of the best ones they make. I am in the bottom .2% spinning reel casters in the world.

Daiwa BG 2500. It’s actually designed for the salt but it’s super light and smooth. I’ve used mine for surf fishing for more than a year and a half and it’s amazing how smooth it still feels to this day. Still feels like it came right out of the box. Very popular reel for light line surf fishing and bass fishing on the west coast. It’s about $99 I think but the extra $20 above your budget would be well worth it. Especially if you end up using it around the gulf and intracoastal areas.
One seller on Ebay has it for $83 with free shipping.

They're sealed too so if you go saltwater fishing, just rinse it off afterward and you're good to go. the 2500 or 3000 are just fine for any type of bass fishing. I caught a 75lb and 95lb yellowfin tuna on my BG6500 and it handled those fish just fine.

well played Yeah I know.... It's all I carry when Crappie fishing. You don't have too, all I do is cut the crankbait off my 2 cranking rods, and tie on the jig. I've been doing pretty good.
