Since winds were light today, I decided to spend the morning fishing and checking out CC spots to the north of me. I walked out to the dock at 6:45 AM with intention of starting at iron wall bulkhead casting shallow for hybrids - like we did at RC last Saturday. Well, as I walked to the dock I heard and saw shad spawning along my and neighbor's bulkheads. So, I grabbed my reel with #4 Mepps and started working it up against the bulkhead and caught 4 legal hybrids, 5 nice whites and a 17 inch black bass. I finally headed out in my boat about 7:30 AM.

In the last 2 months the fishing anywhere north of Long Ridge has been poor due to the stained water. I hadn't checked up that way in at least 2 weeks, so I headed north today to see if I could find and catch some. Checked Carolyn Estates Point and Kevin's Point and didn't see much. Then checked the point in from Iron Wall Hump and found fish in 10 to 15 fow. Caught about 20 whites before they slowed. Then went to Spillway Hump. Water is still stained, so I went to the shallowest part, which is on the north finger of it. There I found fish in 14.5 fow. Caught another 15 or 20 whites, then decided to check out the Rock Pile. Didn't find anything there. Went on north to Enchanted Island Ridge to verify they were not there. The shallowest water on it is 19 fow, and that's too deep for the stained water - I just wanted to confirm that. I looked all over it and no fish.

Thought I'd go on north to the Tennis Courts - a nice shallow Point. But as I rounded Enchanted Island I saw that there were 3 boats already on it. So, I turned west and headed to Game Warden Hump. Found some fish there in 12 to 15 fow and caught about 15 before moving on to check out Spillway Point. As I eased over it it was loaded from 12 fow to 7 fow on the west side of the point. This was the best spot of the day. I could have stayed there and caught whites all day, but I wanted to check out more spots. Next stop was Dollhouse Point. It too had a good concentration of whites. I decided to leave after catching 5 whites and a 20 inch hybrid. Next stop was Merimac Point but nothing there. Then on the Key Ranch North and it had fish. Caught 3 more 12 to 15 fow to prove they were catch-able, then went to check Key Ranch Drop-off. Did a quick check -it was 1 PM and I wanted to be home by then. Didn't see much so I headed on home. For the morning I had 73 whites, 5 hybrid, a cat, a lmb, a crappie and 2 yellow bass.

The good news is that the north spots are holding catch-able fish now - making a lot more structures available for fishing!

I, like Mr. Christian stopped at Spillway Point and caught fish just about every cast for an hour or so. Started here at daylight and did not see much as far as fish. Moved to Kevins point and they started schooling there. Caught about 10 before they quit. Moved to Merimac and nothing there. Went as far as Long Ridge and no fish there either. Returned to Spillway Point at about 9 ish and started catching fish steady in 9.5 ft. of water casting into 6 to 8 ft. Ended catching approx. 50 whites, 1 legal hybrid, 1 catfish, and 2 hybrids that pulled off. Kept 35 for the freezer. Fishing slowed about 10:30 and left about 11:00 and went in. All caught on # 4 Mepps casting to the area of fish and bringing it back to the boat.
