We wanted to try someplace different, so we made a trip up to Ennis. It was a beautiful day and we looked forward to the challenge of a new lake. The first thing I noticed was the existence of a lot of green filamentous algae. The water was also a dingy green. Made a swing around the cove to the immediate right of the ramp and it was shallow. Lots of yuck. Nothing. Continued to a shore line with lily pads and I caught the 1st fish on a brand new KVD 1.5. Yeah! Unfortunately, I put a brand new #6 treble hook past the barb into my right index finger. The hook went into the top of my finger behind the nail. Ouch! I could not get it to turn back through the skin. so there was only one thing to do. Go to the emergency room. My Wife stayed with the boat while I went to Urgent Care in Ennis. It was closed. [censored]! The only other place to go nearby was the local hospital. $507 later, I had the hook out and the cut stitched up. Back to the lake.

This lake is way too shallow. Dang near every cast was fouled by algae or nasty vegetation. My Wife got one bite. I caught 2 more fish and lost 2 others. I guess after numerous trips on this lake, you could come up with some good strategies. The deepest water I saw was 18 feet. Maybe people get out there with a Texas and Carolina rigs. Not our style.

We put another lake on our list but I don't see us coming back. At least the weather was great!

I like Clark sometimes, it’s only 7 minutes from my driveway.
I mainly fish for channel cat there though-
If it wasn’t close I wouldn’t fish it much,
I hear lake Waxahachie has some nice bass in it close to here-

What has happed to you does not define who you are-

HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

Yea, we'll check out Waxahachie one day.

Nice post Rayzor. As far as the hook in the finger goes it has happened to me. Look at the bright side. You will always remember this trip! Glad you are OK! cheers

Thank you! It is not the first time I have put a treble hook in my hand. It was really odd though having it go into the top of my finger behind the nail.

Wah! I'll go cry over catching some LMB on Bastrop tomorrow.

I always enjoy your posts about you and your wife's fishing adventures, so thanks for sharing.

At least you were fishing, I stuck one in my finger in my garage organizing my tackle back in December....bang....Only cost me $198 bucks since our local "doc in the box" was open.

If you do not like “filamentous algae” you will hate Clark in another month or two. Of course you will be missing the hydrilla and the pads too.

Our loss, for sure. When I got the hook in my finger, I was fishing some sparse lily pads. We caught 44 on Bastrop today.

Maybe you should have called James Niggemeyer for a guide trip

I could have saved you a learning curve, a hole in your finger, and $507. That lake is all about wacky rigged senkos and flipping/punching....not open treble baits. Lots and lots of 2-3 pound fish with a few 6+ surprises every now and then.

Eat. Sleep. Fish.
