I've tried a ton of those scents over the 35 years I've been fishing. All of them are made to sell IMO except for Berkley Powerbait, Gulp, and Maxscent. That stuff just flat works!!!

I don’t really use scents to “attract” them. I use them more to make them hang on to the bait a little longer. Think the taste matters more. But I will say for everyone who thinks scents don’t matter or are more to sell the fisherman, would you dip your bait in gas before every cast!???? If scent doesn’t matter shouldn’t hurt anything. 😂

Depending on application and bait use megastrike, choverig, or kicknbass. In addition my dip in dye is always garlic, use both spike it and JJ's magic. Sometimes it doesn't make a difference but sometimes it definitely gets more bites, seems to make more difference in the summer, the hotter it is use more scent.

JJ's is about the only one in my boat that I use. Like above, it's more for them to hold on longer than it is to entice the bite.
I have another one in a tube, that's pretty gummy. Don't use it enough to provide any real feedback on it.

That was the reason I used it on plastics. Now i fish more by feel only, because of not being able to see my line twitch or moving off. Thinking it will give me extra time until I realize it.

I'm always using some sort of scent if the lure doesn't come with it(powerbait for ex). Coffee is my favorite but I'll use shad/craw/garlic whenever I think it's necessary. Tail dipped in garlic chartreuse when flipping beds. Spraying punch baits so they slide thru the matted grass easier. Spraying the skirts of spinnerbaits and chatterbaits just in case an extra millisecond matters when a bass bites down. Who knows really but for me it covers up something that I "did" like using sunscreen/oil/gas. Confidence "booster".

I often use scents. I think it often doesn't matter too much if you have extra scent on your plastic but there are some days it makes a big difference. At this time of the year, if I'm fishing a fluke fast close to the surface of the water weightless, I don't think scents make a significant difference. During the winter when the bass are more sluggish, I almost always add scent to my plastics. It has made a big difference for me some days.

I use scents always when punching mats and grassy stuff. I think the oily greasy stuff helps the bait slide through the cover better. I guess I could use WD40 with the same results. It’s a reaction bite.

I know for a fact that Scent works and this is how: - Google the studies done on the human odor and how fish react to it. Scent mask the human odor and that alone will up your catch ratio. - It makes your plastics as real as possible. Bass feed on the natural scents best of all. With Night Crawler being #1. All species of fresh water fish strike the Night Crawler chum bags twice as often as all other scents that are sold. - Because it is real to the fish they hold on longer, giving you the time needed to set the hook. Certain times of the year this is very important.
** Mexico Test We have a captive audience here and I have done this study many times over the 35 years that we have been going. During the months of Jan. through March 100 fish per day with 50 of those over 5 lbs. is possible everyday. - Each boat is given 10 packages of Brush Hogs. - I give one boat in the group bags of Brush Hogs dosed with Crayfish and they will have 100 Bass per day. - All other boats fishing with the Brush Hogs can dose the bags with any scent they like or fish them straight out of the package. They will only catch 50 to 75 Bass per day. - The next day another boat will be given the dosed Crayfish bags of Brush Hogs and the results is the same. They will have over 100 Bass and all the other boats will have 50 to 75 fish. - None of these boats know that I am doing the test through 6 days of fishing. - The results is the same year after year.
Understand there is not much difference in these 3 scenst. I reference to the study. These guys were using different scent other than minnow, night crawler or crayfish. Match the pray. You would not want to run night crawler on a Crayfish bait. That makes it unreal to the chase.
