Hi group - I am planning on going to Hawaii in November for my honeymoon and have a day reserved on the itinerary for fishing. Looking to do some sort of offshore fishing. From my research, it doesn't seem like November is the best time to go, so trying to decide what my strategy will be. Has anyone fished in November in Maui or Oahu? Would you recommend paying the $1000+ for a trip even though its off season? I have never been to Hawaii but would love to wet a line while im there.
Thanks for any recommendation!

It has been years since I fished in Oahu, Hawaii, but talking with other anglers it is still similar to when I fished there. November is typically considered one of the worst months to fish. There could still be yellowfin tuna and other fish around. What I would do is go to the dock when you get there and see what they are catching. Some charters are much more productive than others. Check their websites and pay attention to dates fish are caught. There are lots of charter boats there and I got some good deals by just walking up and making an offer to the owner, for the next day, or joining in with another group (shared charter). My wife and I met some fun people and had a good time on shared trips. Also, read the fine print on the agreement. Most of the boats make their money by selling the fish you catch. Typically any fish over 80 pounds becomes the boat’s to sell. If you want to release the fish, many captains will not allow catch and release. Watch the weather if getting sea sick is an issue. Sea sickness and honeymoons do not work out well.

numerous people I've talked to say to avoid offshore in Hawaii. The fishing sucks, the captains keep anything you catch and for most, it's just an expensive boat ride. If you DO decide to fish...Kona would be your best option. You CAN fish from shore without a fishing license most places, but check the local laws as they're very strict on species/seasons etc.

If you are looking to do an offshore charter on Oahu (I think that is the island with Wakikiki) than let me know. I have a phone number I can pass along to you. I went two years ago for a wedding for one of my wife's friends and since I am an avid offshore fish guy I asked her if I could take a day out and do offshore. Most amazing experience ever. I brought in one Mahi about 50 lbs and two yellow fin's at 95 lbs and 110 lbs. The crew (2 people) were super helpful as we caught everything trolling and the most welcoming experience ever. I'm the guy on the far right holding the 110lb Tuna in the picture. The other two ppl in the picture were from the island who got sick about 45 mins out into the 4 hour trip. It was a cross wind of 20 mph that morning so it was a bit rough. I paid $250 (split with the other two) so about $800 trip but 100% worth it and the experience is out of this world. If you have more questions private message me, would love to give more information.
