Did he say an 8oz weight? If so..that's $&8$. A #2 wide gap will work.

We usually fish 6 rods at once. In stronger currents, holding the bottom on the rods cast into the current requires more weight. Otherwise, the bait is pused back to the boat by the current.

A #2 wide gap may be a good choice if targeting specks with smaller croaker. But use bigger croaker and have caught plenty of bull reds on the 7/0 Gamagatsu Octopus offset J hook.
