My wife and me booked a cabin for our first anniversary and I’m gonna drag the boat down there with me ( she loves fishing thank goodness). It’s for the end of June which I know it’s gonna be super hot. How’s the fishing in the summer usually? I’ve never been on the lake. We’ll be staying just a couple miles from the Johnsons ranch marina. Anything to look out for? Thanks.

I actually prefer caddo in the summer. Cover water with a frog and tie on a big junebug worm and head out towards main lake. Big single trees and duck blinds will get you some fish.

Andy is telling truth. It’s how most money is won that time of year. Cover water is key

Andy and Mudd are great out there so listen to whatever they say! Lake is really pretty to run around(STAY IN THE BOAT ROW!!) and you can always go up thru government ditch and fish the river. Water will be cooler and you might run into some schooling fish up there. Hope yall have fun!!

Alright thank y’all, I had thought maybe I’d be better off hiring a guide and leaving my boat at the house.

I wouldn’t worry about a guide. When running the boat lanes there is a pole with a arrow on it. Stay on the side the arrow points to and run about 5-10 yards off the pole. Idle when not in a boat lane. When launching around Johnsons you will have about a 2-3 min run to get to main lake and when you see the lake open up just go find you some trees and keep flipping. A fluke will also get you bites usually just smaller.

Caddo is an amazing place. You should have a good chance at catching a bowfin or chain pickerel. hooked

1) Get yourself a lake map from the little store nearby.
2) Take it easy on the throttle. Even areas that look wide open can hide stumps. I lost a prop in an area that looked wide open.
3) Fish a frog early. Pitch cypress trees during the heat of the day.
4) Government ditch can be very shallow. Be careful.

Be safe,

As others have said stay in the boat roads, get a map and turn on your graph with GPS. You can get lost on Caddo very easy. When leaving the lake check for Giant Salvinia on your boat and trailer. You don't want to take it to the next lake you fish or get fined. Good luck and have fun, this is a beautiful lake. I agree with flipping up to the Cypress trees and give a weedless rigged frog a try in the Lily Pads.

If you have the time, you should take Government Ditch just for the view and then come back through the old river channel. Its a beautiful lake, I just started fishing it last year and I can honestly say that I haven't seen anywhere like it. If you get bored looking for bigger fish, the spots are usually schooling somewhere on the river and are pretty fun.

I had posted this before and thought it might help again-

"Def cut thru gov ditch!! Once out of the ditch you'll get in the main channel and pass Johnson's and other places on your right and maybe 1.5 miles down you'll see a cutoff to your left (LL row) and once you go thru there you'll be on C row which runs the top of the lake. Fishing should be good up at the state park on the main river as the current and spotted bass are fun. Lots of channel swings and docks to fish up that way. If you get to that small bridge with the big concrete seawall they school a lot there".

Bassmanrudy, you posted that for me, and I don't know if I told you thank you or not, but it was a big help. Taking alligator bayou all the way around would be pretty, but you had better have a bunch of time and gas.

NELA- my pleasure! I'm visual and since I was in the boat had the map on me so made sense to just show it. Glad you had a good trip!
