Shad are in full on spawn! Just about anywhere I threw the net (from the bank) I'd get at least 10 if not 50 shad.
Got there at sunrise and left at 1130am.
Caught 5 eater blues, a 10lber I let go, and one each of the following; channel cat, gar, large mouth bass, drum, red ear slider, soft shell turtle and water snake.
All on cut shad. I lost a couple of big fish that felt like blues but I'm not sure.
If you want to give catfishing a whirl it's good fishing right now if I'm able to catch that many in short order. The shad head deeper as the day goes and fishing (from the bank at least) slows after 10ish.
It was a pretty good session. I was able to give my neighbors some fish and my Mom and we had some delicious catfish last night!
I plan to go again tomorrow morning and try a slightly different spot that looked interesting on the graph when I was bass fishing from the kayak last week.
I'll give yall a report...

Way to go Dan! Never know what your gonna catch fishing around those Shad flipping... Thank you sensi! That's right...Full buffet is opened for everything that eats shad. Which is about everything. Feeling pretty good about tomorrow! If I can keep the sandies, snakes and turtles away should be good. Everyone is asking me about more fresh fish.... Pressure is on haha

Live update! 10 dinks. Blues and channels. One finned the snot outta me. Was able to net a couple of bluegill. Switched to bigger hooks snd I'm using a bluegill instead of shad to see if I can't get some better sized fish. I added some of my blood to the bluegill...that should put it over the top.

Ended up with just one keeper sized fish. Released him. He was borderline keeper size and with just one... did not seem worth the effort. I caught several drum. Go figure. Seems they like bluegill! Also caught several turtles. One of them I put in the bucket to be my companion. Also so that he could think about what he did and make better decisions next time. He was released. My new spot was a bust. Many bites but no size at all. Are drum any good as bait for blues? Seems I found a honey hole for them lol. Will try again Wednesday.

Filet those drum out, clean the gills & fry 'em up Dan. They're pretty good, not crappie level good, but pretty good.

No problem at all with bait this morning (5/6). Shad running the banks all over. Caught 3 THREE softshell turtles, two gar, 3 drum, 5 sandies and two channel cats. Was after blues. Dang it!! I ended up releasing both of them. One was a pretty fat looking female, and maybe the biggest channel cat I've caught on Lewisville, the other one was just borderline keeper size...and I was just over it and didn't feel like cleaning fish especially when I don't love channel cat. I really need to find a new spot. I seldom catch blue and channel cat in the same spot at the same time when bank fishing. And I now HATE turtles haha.

We used to fish the little point out on that peninsula at night for flatheads when I was in high school . It used to have some timber on it but that’s long gone. There is also a small shallow flat right next to it on the west side of the point we would cast to. We caught a lot of blues there too. Cast some shallow on that shallow flat and send some out on that point. It doesn’t hold a ton of fish but it can be real good at times.
