Last Thursday 4-30, brother and I went to Mccown, place was packed, about 60 trailers in the lot. Caught 17 fish, 2 keeper. Today, 5-4, we went to lofers, only 7 trailer at day use ramp, 2 at lofers west. Windy. Fished 2hours for about 6 fish. Went over to the flats near the island looking for whites. Found a large school of stripers, boated 40 small stripers in a couple hours. We were using small equipment, for the whites, so it was alot of fun. We were not keeping fish anyway, so small didnt matter. Total 40 stripers, 1 white, and the big fish for the day, spotted bass which was in the school of stripers. They never stopped biting, we just got tired.

Anyone catching sandies out there? Would like to get the wife on some while we catch some stripers too. I haven't been in a week or so, but the last few times I was out there were lots of sandies in shallow water, feasting on the spawning shad. Nice ones too, I kept a limit one day of nothing but 15-16" fish. Backs of creeks, shallow coves, etc. Caught on a variety of stuff....ratl-traps, sassy shads, and kastmasters. Look for the white heron-type birds standing along the shoreline.

Wife and I were back out at Mccowns Wednesday evening, small stripers were chasing shad on top, caught 30-35 between 7-8pm, i also boated a 23" & 26". All released. Best time is last hour of daylight. Wife caught most 20-25, she had great time. Better than catching sandies.

Are the fish taking artificial at all? I was out on Tuesday this week, caught a 23" striper trolling a crankbait in 14' of water, and a 21" striper casting a ratl-trap in 4' of water. Plus 20 or so sandbass and small stripers. Was out again today, and it was kinda slow. Caught a 16" sandbass trolling a ratl-trap, plus 3 or 4 small stripers. Did catch 4 eating-size channel cats on cut shad.
