I am Taylor and I am new to this forum as well as fishing saltwater. I am wondering what some basic hooks, line size, weight size , lures, and a few good basic cast techniques I could learn that I could use to get started I grew up fishing but fishing on the lakes for catfish right off the bottom. I just got my first boat and live in the golden triangle area and will be fishing Sabine lake mostly. Looking for Reds Trout and maybe some flounder I do have some popping corks and a couple Lews med/heavy rod and reel set ups but that is about all. Any information to help me get started would be great. If there is already some good info in other threads please point me in that direction.

welcome For lures, try a 3/4 oz Johnson sprite spoon or a mirro-lure, either topwater or suspending. Various jig heads with powerbait tails are good. You can either throw them alone or under a rattling float. If you want to catch a lot of fish, and different species, then use a shrimp. Once you catch a non-gamefish, cut it up and throw it out on a shelf of the intracoastal. There are lots of posts you can search to get great ideas. Good luck and let use know how you do.

For trout I use a 7' ML BC rod w/ a long handle rigged using a slip cork set up, 20# mainline..30# fluro leader line and a #6 treble hook. Rod is used for my flounder also, Carolina rigged using finger mullet or mud minnows. #2 rod is a 7' MH rod...30# mainline and 40# leader line.....for heavier fish. Live shrimp is my go to bait for trout.
BTW.. welcome to the forum.
