I have a Ranger Z21 which is 103" wide from outside tire to outside tire. If you have a detached garage, shed, shop, etc. and back a boat this size in there, how wide of a door is reasonable?
I've stored it in a shop with a 10' wide door but it is ultra tight getting it in there. I want something more comfortable, both to get the boat in there but also so I can walk around the boat when I need to organize things, work on tackle, etc. So I'm trying to figure out the minimum (comfortable) width for the door and also for the shop area itself if I were to build one.
Thanks for your input.

Mine is a 30x40 with 10ft doors for my boats and yes, it’s less than a foot of clearance on each side, but haven’t whiskey dented anything....YET
If you are doing just a shop for the Ranger, you might consider a 20x40 or something similar
A man once told me when I was saving for my shop, “always build a little bigger than you think you will need...because you always find a need for more space down the road”...and he was right

Yep! Your tractor doesn’t have enough HP and your barn/shop/garage is too small. It just is...

Built my garage with 2 12’s on it. Framer kept trying to talk me out of it, finally had to tell him “I’m paying you to put 12’s in, so put the freaking 12’s in. Much more forgiving for when the sun is in your eyes while trying to back up.

Built homes for many years. For double overhead garage doors I always encouraged everyone to use an 18’ wide door every time. For parking two vehicles it seems WAY more than 2’ bigger then the standard 16’ wide. Very few dollars to go wider. For a single boat door? Unless your building is only 12’ wide(guessing it’s not) go with 12’ wide and however tall you can. You can use a height only 1’ less than the buildings exterior wall height. Even taller if the door is going on the gable ends. IF your building is 30’ wide I would encourage you to put in two 12’ wide doors even if you don’t plan to use the 2nd door. Adds so many more options and resale value. With my 12’ wide x 13’ tall doors I can back in my dually pickup, truck camper, trailer, boat.....everything almost blindfolded. Had 10’ wide.....once. Never again! Good luck!

Waiting on mine to be finished. 30x40 with a 20’ door. Looks like your going to have some nice covered parking as well as a nice shop . I wish I had planned out some covered parking when I had my shop built . I placed the shop in a spot that is unfriendly to adding on with telephone pole and one side and large beautiful tree's on the other .

12x12 door with opener. 20x30 minimum and a 30x30 would be my minimum. we just added to the shop here, 30x40 add on with 2 12' open bays and one 10x12 enclosed for side by side storage. have backed my boats in the 2 right side 10' and it is tight. put a LOT of lights in, backing is a whole lot easier if you can see where you are going.

My shop is 30' X 50'. I put two 12' doors on opposite sides of the building. I can just drive thru. Do not have to back either in or out. I made one huge mistake and that is the 10' wall height, so my doors are only 8' tall. I should have gone with 12' walls then made the doors 10' tall.

Lighting is a big factor if you plan to use it beyond just storage. This tool has been helpful on some projects when re-lighting areas and a new shop build recently. Visual 3D

I just had a 24x30’ built with a 12’ wide door. Definitely recommend the 12’ door, gives me plenty of room and the 30’ deep gives me enough room to walk all the way around the boat.

I'm going 30X50. 1 Large door in front middle & 1 smaller one on side. I chose 50ft long so I can back boat & truck in without unhooking. Hoping to start construction in a few weeks!
