Ok I purchased a couple of bags of deer corn for yes deer. My wife got injured and I did not get to hunt so those two bags keep staring at me.
So I decided to put them in my crawfish pot and cook the corn on my grill. Then I took it to a location I liked on Lake fork. So I soon was catching catfish with some good cooked corn in their belly. I had always chummed with Millet or wheat and most of the time range cubes. The cooked corn smells a lot nicer than soured grain so I think I like it better. The fish seem to like it well also. I got a couple of friends from up someplace above the red river telling me that chumming is illegal. So I told them to call the warden and report me. Some guys just cannot stand seeing someone enjoying catching a few fish. I rarely keep more than 10 fish in a day but often catch way more than a limit. So I do catch and release a good number of catfish. Most folks think catfishermen are lower level guys but some of them just like catching fish which describes me exactly. I enjoy pulling a fish in every so often and will not sit on a spot for hours without getting a bite. I realize it is called fishing not catching but I prefer catching. Anyone else use cooked corn?

Canned corn works great as chum and bait for channel cat.

Evidently it only works good as bait if you're also chumming with it though. It'll also bring in carp and buffs, great fighters and underrated, as well as bluegills... and anywhere bluegill get distracted with eating, largemouth bass will often follow.

So yeah corn is very good in my experience.Chumming with corn is legal in Texas.

To heck with anyone who looks down on cat fisherman. I'm a bass fisherman by trade, but I enjoy the challenge of catfishing and love having some for dinner. I also enjoy fly fishing for bluegill, carp fishing, Buffalo fishing, stripers are awesome....really fishing for anything that swims.
