Fished a new spot this week and caught some nice Redbreast,Bluegill,Large Mouth Bass and a very nice 16.50" Rainbow Trout. The certified weight was 1.30 Lbs. The fish was released. An Application for both the Catch&Release and weight records was sent to Texas Parks&Wildlife for their review. A couple of days later myself and Rick aka Catyakker went back to the same creek and we caught some nice Bluegill,Redbreast, Large Mouth Bass, and a very nice Redear. The certified weight of the Redear was .53 Lbs. A records application was sent to Texas Parks&Wildlife for their review. Rick caught a super nice Rainbow Trout that was Approx 16" and just missed the pending Rainbow Trout weight record. Rick's fish weighed 1.17 Lbs. I returned one day later and caught yet a third "Monster" Rainbow Trout. The fish was 16.25" in length with a weight of 1.26 Lbs. A few nice Redbreast rounded out the catch. I kept this trout for the oven to be baked on a later date. The "Bait of Champions" Worms was the bait used. All fish were released with the exception of two trout. I contacted the owner of the ranch where I was fishing to let him know about the Rainbow Trout. He said he had them privately stocked back in January and that the fish that are not caught will die off when the water warms up. He said, that a good friend of his as caught trout during early May. Catching some "Monster Rainbow Trout" during the last week of April. It just don't get any better! fish

Some great catches Chuck, Rick. That is a toad of a redear ! Probably preggo.

Yeah, I would keep all the trout this time of year. The increasing water temps will bring their demise soon,
unless you were fishing below Canyon.

Any idea what the water temp was where those trout came from? Wondering if possibly I might have one or two left in a pond. Thanks.

Thanks Clayton, Meadowlark, and Curt0407 for the replies. cheers Meadowlark: I do not know what the water temperature was. The owner of the land stated that the fish were stocked in late January and that they all usually die off by early to mid May. thumb

Nice trout! I have baked quite a few Okie stocker trout that last two years. Fav recipe is to stuff cavity with a couple lemon slices, rub olive oil on skin, add a couple more lemon slices to outside of trout, wrap in aluminum foil and bake at 420 for 20-30 minutes depending on size of trout (14 inches to 18 inches for ones I kept for the oven). Remove from oven, open foil, scrape off skin, then season the meat with Cajun spices. If you season before cooking most of it just washes off with the lemon juice.
