WOW, what a surprise that was. Rainbow trout in a Hill Country creek. One thing about fishing with the master, it never gets boring.

Some great catches Chuck, Rick. That is a toad of a redear ! Probably preggo.
Yeah, I would keep all the trout this time of year. The increasing water temps will bring their demise soon, unless you were fishing below Canyon.

Thanks Steve and Doc for the replies. The ranch owner was actually surprised when I told him I had released my first fish. When I told him about the record all he said was " I would have had one heck of a fish dinner"! Told me to come back and catch more which I did! Got a feeling that there are not many more left! Who knows.

Any idea what the water temp was where those trout came from? Wondering if possibly I might have one or two left in a pond. Thanks.

Thanks Clayton, Meadowlark, and Curt0407 for the replies. Meadowlark: I do not know what the water temperature was. The owner of the land stated that the fish were stocked in late January and that they all usually die off by early to mid May.

Nice trout! I have baked quite a few Okie stocker trout that last two years. Fav recipe is to stuff cavity with a couple lemon slices, rub olive oil on skin, add a couple more lemon slices to outside of trout, wrap in aluminum foil and bake at 420 for 20-30 minutes depending on size of trout (14 inches to 18 inches for ones I kept for the oven). Remove from oven, open foil, scrape off skin, then season the meat with Cajun spices. If you season before cooking most of it just washes off with the lemon juice.

Thanks strangetamer90, SK, and JCG57 for the replies! Strangtamer90: This was the first time I ever caught a Rainbow Trout in April fishing in Texas! There are spots close to where I live where you can catch trout all year around. I just might try a couple this upcoming summer! JCG57: Yes Sir baked trout are hard to beat!

Thanks Curtis for the reply! I lived many many years ago in Washington State and caught Rainbow Trout year around. There was a lake close to where I lived and I fished it a lot growing up! As for catching trout in Texas this has been closest to summer months. I just might try to catch a trout during the summer months on the Guadalupe!

I have caught a few in March off of the Blanco River a couple of years ago but never in April. That was the first Rainbow Trout I caught in Texas during April. Late April at that!

Sunny K. in Jagg's video (One River, Two Stories) has caught a Rainbow Trout in July on the Guadalupe River. "What a Catch"! That is the first Rainbow Trout I have seen caught in Texas during the summer! Just goes to prove that trout live year around in Texas!

Wow... you really stick with the tried and true earthworms for many of your outings! Do you tend to use a whole earthworm under the bobber? Like one of those huge nightcrawlers you can get at academy?
Really beautiful trout!

Thanks Curtis! Yes I took two to the scale. One went just under a pound and a half! The other about a pound and a quarter! Hope they both make the record book! I hope! There were a lot of nice trout caught in several water bodies this year. Hopefully any of them did not get weighed and went right to the frying pan!

Way to go Chuck! You keep piling on the records! Side Note: It also looks like you got some trout records for 2021. Any plans for summer trophy zone trout fishing on the Guadalupe this spring/summer?

Thanks Gitter and Torry for the replies. Gitter: No plans to fish for the trout during the spring ,summer, fall months. Winter only during my slow period for the Bluegill/sunfish.

Will do Gitter! We can really use a lot of RAIN! It's mighty dry out there!
