Hey guys, so.. finally planning a trip to Port A with the "new to me" boat that I have owned over a year without getting her in the water (well.. I lowered her into Lake Bastrop to see if she had leaks.. lol just at the dock..)

Anyway, I thought the Mansfield boat ramps were closed, but spoke with them yesterday and they are open. The question of the day is about the harbor slips you can rent nightly may not be... waiting to hear back from them.

If they open, I can get a 40ft slip for like $48 a night, with electricity.. heh. If not, then may be looking at a 200 mile drive, early... going out.. and coming back afterwards. That will be draining.

Been a few years since I took a boat out there. Trying to get my "feet wet"... no.. not really wet.. lol.. and get time with this boat. Debating what to fish for. I know Snapper season is not started yet, although we can fish for them inside the 9nm limit. What all else out there can we/should we be able to focus on this time of year? I hate Kingfish.. lol.. but can catch those easy enough. Would love to know if Amberjack season is open by May 8th and/or what else is worth targeting.

I am rigged for bottom fishing, done that for years, but will have some trolling equipment available as well. I have 200 gallons of gas I need to burn down :P

Would love to know if anyone else will be out that way the 2nd weekend in May.. would like to build up a friend network down there, for safety purposes.. not to get fishing spots.. I have those heh.. bottom fish.. but trolling has never been something I did a lot of :P I also would like to be able to coordinate "buddies" when down there. Safety is my biggest issue, especially when I start taking my kids out.

Anyway, a lot to absorb. Many boats.. many years, but not with this boat so... always learning wink

Russ

May is a transition month before the summer season starts up. Blackfin tuna should still be close. A cobia could show up and there still should be some wahoo around. Kingfish and snapper species are always available. Sharks will always bend a rod. Dolphin could start showing up. Watch the wind and seas, they can sneak up on you at this time of year.

Rigs to s/e once you leave the outlet. 15 miles about stay inside state waters.

Forgot you have to follow a thread even if you start it. Will check options.

Cool beans. Made another thread, sorry.. been a hell of a week and I forgot all about this one.

I have a few 6/0 rods ready, some 30lb test on some 114's etc, and odd and end rods and reels. I am more going to shake down the new boat, but fishing is always a plus. Thanks for the tips!

FYI - sorry, three threads in a row talking about port A. I forgot you have to follow the thread to get the responses even if you start the thread. I will reply to the newest one for the rest of this trip info :P
