What is your favorite lure to troll with and what depth do you troll?

Have never even thought to use an umbrella rig! How often do you catch multiple fish at a time. That would be some fun!

Ha, I think you are right, I don't have anywhere near the luck anymore that we used to have on pet spoons. Bomber crankbaits in white are what always have and still worked for me.

Hellbender pet spoon... 12 to 14 feet
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Man, there are a lot of old familiar names in that thread. Curious how many of them are still around?

We use umbrella rigs for whites and stripers. This morning, April 30, we caught 17 stripers, mostly small ones, but my brother caught 3 at once. We have caught multiples several time .

If you have downriggers I’d use a pet spoon. Works really well. If you’re using crank baits you just need it to get close to bottom or bounce off bottom for water 20-25 feet deep or so

Repect the fish is correct, big stripers like the bottom, edges, ledges and humps. Umbrella rigs require heavy lure in the center to go deep, downside is you get hung up some, loose rigs, can get expensive. Still my preferred technique. I caught a nice hybrid striper at whitney yesterday trolling, had about 150 yards of line out. It was a battle, loved it. Hybrids are rare at whitney, but there are a few in there.

Interesting to hear.....i enjoy trolling and covering alot of water......i went to T-wok 3 weeks ago and got some really nice fish trolling / 7 pound hybrid/ 19 inch striper/ some magnum sandies /....went back 2 weeks later and did the same areas same umbrellas and not a fish. put a white bomber on and got a few to bite. lock jaw---- went to whitney the other day and like floydster got a bunch (30) of little striper several doubles on umbrellas. the dinks are in fulll force over there! also got some on top water which was a blast.

I am old but I still use a magnum hellbender with the hooks removed with a smaller spoon tied to the back split ring and a weight attached go the front hook split ring. We have been trolling them since the 60's. Yes I was alive when Cedar Creek was flooded and thabt hellbender will hit bottom in 30 foot deep water. Not many baits get that deep while trolling. I removed the hooks from the hellbender because I like to use it more than one time and they hang less without hooks. Now in the early days we would just troll our hellbenders and catch hybrids and whites and occasional green one or catfish. Hint try getting gass pro to order you some big white hellbender! Lol I'm finally got Brandon's in powdery to order egg them and I but case if them every year. I could be biased but [censored] is best in my opinion. I use some chrome ones sometimes but we'd hire seems to catch more fish especially in muddy water which describes manh eastern texas lakes and southern Oklahoma also. Those hellbenders work on Texoma also and even Whitney. I lkjecyo ho to hugo lake in Oklahoma with my Hellbenders. The oklahoma lakes are full of fish and the corps parks are awesome.
