We just need to eliminate unions and the minimum wage. Lowering the cost of labor would increase our ability to produce goods and it would help reduce unemployment.

I don't think we can beat China at their own game. We have let ourselves get behind in a lot of technology while they were improving. I have noticed that many of the top scientist in this country are of Oriental decent. Not sure how the smartest of theirs compared to the smartest of ours would turn out. I see that the valedictorian in many graduating classes are of some other nationality. That has illustrated the lower priority we have placed on education compared families that have immigrated here from some countries.

Our automotive industry was in the ditch a few years ago because the quality was horrible compared to a number of imports. The industry finally woke up and quality became a higher priority and today, US made vehicles are probably as good as imports.

Plus we have lots of raw material exports to China including many ag products. Those markets will be decimated if not allowed to export to China.

Screw the Chinese. No one needs them except the North Koreans.

We could, but we will not. Six months after the Rona is history...it will be forgotten and businesses will be chasing the Chinese money.

Also Chinas population is well educated in general and very well educated in their employment field.
Mexico has no money so a US company that wants to manufacture there usually has to build a plant, buy the machinery, build the computerized equipment. Plus Mexico workers are poorly educated and do not have any specialty training. So the US has to shoulder that cost also.
It actually cost a lot more to build in Mexico than China.
I wish the US could move away from China products but don’t see it happening to a huge degree.

Would be difficult to quit 100 percent. We could scale down a lot but not 100 percent.

not sure Americans have the technology to put together a TV anymore, if we did it would cost 50,000 bucks

Step up our game? Our Game is already light years ahead of China. Their "game" is CHILD LABOR, inferior raw materials, [censored] engineering, huge manufacturing tolerances, reverse engineering out designs, no cost of following safety standards.

Americans have the technology to do ANYTHING any other country can do. China steals our technology. They are the least innovative country on the planet. All they do is steal our technology and use all the things I said to make cheap sheet products that fall apart in the box on the way over.

Good Post ReelSlow, I agree.

The CCP is obsessed with having anything any other country has. It is a country with a massive inferiority complex that will screw over anyone to achieve their goals.

For a few years I was into buying only American made when it was available. I have moved to buying the best made/longest lasting of the item that I want/need. Some of that is in the USA, some Europe, some Asia, some north and south of our borders. The only way the good old USA can compete is through top quality and automation. Cheap labor usually gives you a cheap product.

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

You see a future where factory workers will be earning barely enough for a bowl of rice and beans and a cot to sleep on. I don't see that happening but maybe that is the future.

But they would have free healthcare and masters degrees in studies. The model exists.
