Where on Palestine can we find some sand bass, hybrids or stripers? My 7 year old has begun to love crappie fishing, but I want to put him on some of these to see what he thinks. We have to stay south of 155 because we will be in a tritoon and I am not real keen on getting around the timber. I grew up on Tawakoni and remember when my dad would get bored crappie fishing we would go to Wolfe cove and wait for the birds to dive and catch sandbass. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If not staying under the 155 bridge then....Try launching at deep end boat ramp and trolling down the side of dam to the right past the spillway(number 31 in pic).or try going on up and east to the 346 bridge in chimney cove...or number 27 in the picture in 15 to 20 ft of water.... [Linked Image]

Awesome, I appreciate the reply. I will try those. We keep our boat at the marina in saline bay. I'm comfortable running to the dam. We do that regularly during the summer. I can get to the villages by going by the pump station, but I know there is alot of timber out there and not ready to try my luck just yet. I'll fish under the 155 bridge, but just prefer to stay south of that. I've also went to the other marina off 155. I usually come straight out of saline and directly across. Ive seen some of the timber out there too, I usually take it slow and follow other boats when I'm not sure. We spent alot of time last summer down by the dam and in saline swimming and playing. I'm just starting to fish out there some, and wanting to stay in areas I'm kind of familiar with for now. I grew up on Fork and Tawakoni and have seen first hand some of the damage that can be done.

Unfortunately Lake Palestine is not in the same class of fishery as Tawakoni. We rarely get schooling action and if we do it is usually short lived and right at daylight, dark or when a storm is hitting.

Here is a link with some spots close to where you keep your boat and Smith point which is also close should be good soon all the way thru summer. If you dont mind going early the bite has been incredible on main lake retaining walls and wind blown points at daylight. The shad are right up on the bank spawning at night and will be there the first few hours in morning. Had several great mornings this weekend from the bank at eagles bluff. That bite should be good the next few weeks. Simple carolina rig on fresh dead shad close to the bank should work great and have another rod ready with artificial in case they start schooling which they did on Sunday. I keep my boat at same place as yours. 22 ft blue wave center console so if you see me there say hello

Nice pics ATM, solid hybrids. Boys are getting BIG. It's fun when they take off with the live shad. There is no mistaking that bite! Get one about 10-12 inches and put it on a big circle hook and 1 ounce weight and heave it out there while fishing for those 5-6lbr's. Won't get as many bites but that's how I caught my 14lb'r. Sold our dock in Eagles Bluff but dad said the new boat slips/dock are nice and easy to fish from.

Figured yall sold the boat house. Miss seeing your dad down there. We actually caught a 21” hybrid that looked like it was full of eggs but turned out to be 10” gizzard balled up inside

Shad are super easy to get early against any retaining wall or dock or concrete by bridge. Shouldn’t take but one or two throws of cast net to get more than enough. If you see even one fish blow up on the bank usually you can anchor up , chunk out a few lines and wait for the rodeo. If you have side imaging you should be able to scan around in same area in 10-20’ on drop offs where wind is blowing in to looking for groups and do the same thing although live bait right under the boat works better if you can keep it alive. Fun time to get kids on the bite

ATM thank you for the info. I knew Tawakoni was in it's own class, but was surprised I didnt see any schooling all last summer. Now I know why lol. I will give it a go. I've seen a blue wave in the marina down by the sailboats. We have been doing a little fishing in there. We got the boat out of storage on sunday and put it on the water. We are a blue berkshire tritoon. Maybe we will see you down there. If we do any good I'll post some pictures.

Thanks guys for the spots....we went late winter and got on a school in chimney cove bridge I was taking about and caught a bunch of both..they were in there about 3-4 days...my partner caught an 8-9 lbser and I was jealous...he only cares about black bass and didnt even want a picture...we were just fishing lures no minnows...I want to go back and just target whites and hybrids....we fish about 85% north end...and I do the white run up the river most years when it's not flooded....and saline bay is one of the last ereas I haven't explored but see I now need to.....thanks atm97..

Good information, ATM97 and Go-N-Slo. Do you guys have an suggestions for north of 155? Have weekend place about couple miles south of Flat Creek - any spots up this way handy? Fairly new to Lake Palestine after having fished Cedar Creek for years.

Not sure on the north end spots but had a buddy that used to do well around flat creek island this time of year.

Try the island in front of henderson point on the south side of island...or the tyler intake tower over on the east side across the lake....
