The Point-1 is powered via the NMEA 2000 network. The network has a "drop lead" (typically under the console) that connects to a 12V power source. ALL devices on the NMEA network draw power through this, so it's not something you want on all the time, especially while the boat may sit with no charger connected. Who wired your NMEA 2000 network? If you know what the T's look like in a NMEA network, look for them under your dash. One of them will have red/black power wires that connect to a power source. That power source should NOT be "always on". You want that to be switched in some matter so that you can turn it off. At least this is my preference, others may be OK with it. If you have a main battery switch, the boat manufacturer may be counting on you to turn that off to truly shut down all power on the boat.
If you have a main battery switch, turn it off, then check how the Point-1 feels in a couple hours. If cooler, you probably have your answer. If you do not have a main battery switch, disconnect all wires from the + of the main battery, then check the Point-1 later to see if it cooled down. If you find that it's on all the time and you don't like that, get back with me for options.
