What are the stripers hitting on right now? What part of the lake? If it is on live bait where did you catch the bait? Just trying to figure this lake out without trying to find them schooling on top.

Have been fishing a bunch for sandies at pk and catching many, many 6 to 10: stripes, but only one legal size, it was about 8 lbs Shad are everywhere, you shouldn't have any trouble finding some. Any cove with some lights close to the water will have shad. Catching lots of magnum sandies, lots of drum and about a dozen largemouth this morning the biggest about 6lbs. Kept about 20 sandies this morning for a fry.[img] http://7424.jpg

I'm seeing the same thing as MWfishin. I have fished a lot this April and have caught one (1) keeper striper that was 19 inches. It was in excellent shape as are all the fish at PK. Lots and lots of little ones. I think the stripers used the floods to spawn before going out the flood gates.
Shad are everywhere and in huge numbers. I fished out 40 I caught up a creek and then went over to a shady spot beside one of the docks I was fishing and threw my 7 foot net once in 25 feet of water and it came up full of shad. Nets not taped either. Lots of big largemouth bass and good size sandies. Fishing is real good at PK for everything but stripers.

There are a few to be caught but our numbers are lower than normal. Lots of small healthy stripers in the mix. Fished to mornings and an evening last weekend. Lots of sand bass and very few keeper stripers.

If ya'll want the stripes to return in full measure, either eliminate slabs with barbs or reduce the number of hooks on slabs. Assuming slabs are being used. RSR produces barbless slabs, will make you a better fisherman via learning to keep constant pressure on said lure. Yes, you will lose some, however, the future fish population will have a better chance to come back. My 2 cents worth as I am on the lake as well and am experiencing the same , catch two rat stripes and move. I am using barbless slabs.

I'm using live shad gborg and my number 6 hooks I'm using for crappie and Bluegills usually get the stripers in the mouth and they seem alright. If it gets them in the gills, well I guess the Blue Herons got to eat too. There are no shortage of stripers at PK, just a shortage of keepers. Not great year for striper guides I guess, but I've been catching some monster LM Bass. I guess a treble hook on a slab would do some serious damage to an 8 inch striper.
If TPWD wants to keep those fish in the lake they need to put some sort of net barrier in front of those flood gates. This is a good example of how BRA and TPWDs don't work together and how they waste money. BRA pulled the electric generators out and did not replace them. They could have run solid the last two years. But Solindra out in CA got a $500 Million dollar loan from the SBA to make solar panels yet never made a single one. I'm thinking that those hydroelectic generators are pretty green as far as energy goes. Two years ago when they opened the flood gates I went down to check it out and there were lots of folks coming out with five gallon buckets full of big stripers.Maybe TPWD actually has a plan to allow the bank fishing folks to catch some every few years. Either way loads of stripers went over that dam.

I am no expert when it comes to Striper on PK, but we caught some trolling an area I have had luck on the past few years.
we took home 4 big keeper fish to eat (nothing giant),. tossed everything else back. I was on the south end of the lake.
I was trolling a 1 oz swim-jig with a 5 inch swim-bait for the trailer in 25 to 30 ft of water near the river channel. fish were sitting in 15 to 10 ft of water.
I did not start fishing until about 1 pm and we left them at around 6. I did have on one big fish that looked to 15 be pounds or bigger, but it came off as we were about to net it. all fish were very clean and healthy! I cant wait to find them on top water. May is usually really good for me on top water at PK for striper.
