Haven't posted in a while, mainly due to the fact that we haven't been able to get on the water much due to the closures & quarantine. However, we have managed to get out to a local creek (that is secluded enough to visit) a few times over the past three days. This creek also happens to be one of our favorite local waters for both carp & buffalo, and has produced some monsters for it's size in the past. We've landed several PB's from this creek in the past, and this 3-day session was no different!

Barely an hour into the second day, after a crazy fight, I landed my new PB smallmouth buffalo. In my personal experience, buffs have always put up a fight, but have always tended to fight in a more lethargic and less acrobatic style than carp, with fewer runs. But this guy ran like a big common, and had me convinced I was hooked into a new PB carp until he surfaced. But I'm just as happy with a new PB buffalo! Caught on a piece of bread under our signature TX-style carp float rig.

All three of these commons were also caught on bread under our float rigs.

And while we have caught several buffs in the past on our spinning combos, I hadn't managed to land one on a fly rod... until now! Although, to be fair, I wasn't actually "fly" fishing... I hooked him by freelining bread on a #6 hook tied to my fly leader. But hey, if it works, it works! Not to mention fighting a buff on a fly rod is quite an experience! fish

I use hair rigs and conventional gear for buffs and carp in Ray Hubbard, but I fly fish for carp in a smaller, muddy, local lake. Using flies has been really stuff...I don't see anything fish...it's too muddy. So a couple of days ago, I started tossing out some boiled corn, and using my fly rod with an unweighted hair rig baited with a couple of pieces of corn, and a yarn indicator to watch. It's worked great, and maybe I'll catch a buff this way if there are any in the little lake. The larger carp are a blast on the fly rod. The fly rod lets you cast with minimal weight, and the indicator kind of moves around in the breeze, dragging the corn.

Nice!

I tend to over think fishing. Please help me.
When I am over complicating something please kick me in the face. Hard.
