“War is no pastime; it is no mere joy in daring and winning, no place for irresponsible enthusiasts. It is a serious means to a serious end.”
Carl von Clausewitz

The tragedy of modern war is that the young men die fighting each other – instead of their real enemies back home in the capitals.
-Edward Abbey

To coexist with communism on the same planet is impossible. Either it will spread, cancer-like, to destroy mankind, or else mankind will have to rid itself of communism (and even then face lengthy treatment for secondary tumors).
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

No man escapes when freedom fails.
and good men rot in filthy jails,
and those who cried appease, appease
are hanged by those they tried to please.

George Hiram Mann
1872-1955

– In 1967, Polish mercenary Rafal Ganowicz was asked what it felt like to take human life, “I wouldn’t know, I’ve only ever killed Communists”

“You need only reflect that one of the best ways to get yourself a reputation as a dangerous citizen these days is to go around repeating the very phrases which our founding fathers used in the great struggle for independence.” Charles Austin Beard

“A settled plan to deprive the people of all the benefits, blessings, and ends of the contract, to subvert the fundamentals of the constitution, to deprive them of all share in making and executing laws, will justify a revolution.”
John Adams, Novanglus Papers, 1774

“A people who would stand fast in their liberty, should furnish themselves with weapons proper for their defence, and learn the use of them. It is indeed an hard case, that those who are happy in the blessings of providence, and disposed to live peaceably with all men, should be obliged to keep up the idea of blood and slaughter, and expend their time and treasure to acquire the arts and instruments of death. But this is a necessity which the depravity of human nature has laid upon every state. Nor was there ever a people that continued, for any considerable time, in the enjoyment of liberty, who were not in a capacity to defend themselves against invaders, unless they were too poor and inconsiderable to tempt an enemy.”
Simeon Howard to the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company in Boston, June 7, 1773

"Show me a man who will jump out of an airplane and I'll show you a man who will fight." - General James Gavin

"When we jumped into Sicily, the units became separated, I couldn't find anyone. Eventually, I stumbled across two colonels, a major, three captains, two lieutenants and one rifleman and we secured the bridge. Never in the history of war have so few been led by so many." - General James Gavin

‘Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.’ - Gen James Mattis

“The hard decisions are not the ones you make in the heat of battle. Far harder to make are those involved in speaking your mind about some harebrained scheme which proposes to commit troops to action under conditions where failure is almost certain and the only results will be the needless sacrifice of priceless lives.” - Gen Matthew Ridgway

"A serious problem in planning against American doctrine is that the Americans do not read their manuals, nor do they feel any obligation to follow their doctrine." - Unidentified German General in a debriefing after WWII

“After the demise of the best Airborne plan, a most terrifying effect occurs on the battlefield. This effect is known as the Rule of LGOPs. This is, in its purest form, small groups of 19- year old American Paratroopers. They are well-trained, armed-to-the-teeth and lack serious adult supervision. They collectively remember the Commander’s intent as 'March to the sound of the guns and kill anyone who is not dressed like you…' …or something like that. Happily they go about the day’s work…" - Author Unknown

I don’t care if I fall as long as someone else picks up my gun and keeps on shooting.
~ Che Guevara

I don't know if I would refer to Che as a Top Military Commander.
He was a three time failed revolutionary wanna be who was Fidel Castro's pet project.

Interesting guy. Never used profanity, so that was about as strong a message as the General would send. German officers did not understand, so another American officer explained NUTS to them using much more colorful language.

I'm paraphrasing;

War isn't hell, war is war and hell is hell.
Sinners go to hell.
There are no innocent bystanders in Hell. War is chock full of innocent bystanders.

Many interviewers when they come to talk to me, think they're being progressive by not mentioning in their stories any longer that I'm black. I tell them, 'Don't stop now. If I shot somebody you'd mention it.'
