I have a 40 gal. stock tank that I keep minnows in. I have successfuly kept bait in this tank for quite some time.
I have about 2 dozen older minnows that have been in the tank about a month and recently added a pound of new minnows ---
The new batch is dying off like crazy but the older minnows are fine .
I know the water ariation and filter is doing its job and the water is fine.
I have adjusted my feeding to accomodate the new minnows.
But I have lost almost all of the new batch in less than 3 days.
Any idea ?
Thanks

I have always had a harder time keeping minnows this time of the year. The man that delivers minnows to the store where I shop told me that the minnows are in the middle of their spawning season and as such are very sensitive to stress of any type.

Did you acclimate the new residents before releasing them into the tank? ....or just dump 'em in?

Could have been something in the water the new minnows came in? Maybe just bad luck - bad timing...

Good luck with it.
