Most of the bed fish I saw last week were small and super skittish. Very few at that as well numbers wise. I'm sure there are still good numbers on beds but I was there several days and did not see many at all. Fewest I have seen in April in several years. Probably operator error.

Mark, what was the water temps? and what was water clarity like? They varied daily....mostly 62-68. Found 70 in a couple places but they were not big areas. Visibility is getting better especially first few feet from bank. Lake is still stained to lightly stained.

I would guess there will be another wave or at least a small wave move up this week. The water temps plummeted last week on the lakes I hit. Went from 69-72 down to 62-65. That probably will extend the spawn and those that were about to come up probably held off for a couple of days at least. If you want to look at some Chris, go to Welsh. Still lots of fish you can see that are on beds. No giants but still fun.

The thing that really stood out to me and I felt like I covered quite a bit of the lake last week was I saw ZERO fry and very baitfish. maybe it was a timing deal on my part and I missed the shad spawning in some areas but I saw a lot of empty beds but no fry whatsoever. I am sure others out there had different experiences.

Good luck on sight fishing. Like Mark said there are still a few on beds but very few. The ones that are look like this.

Was on fork every day last week and sight fishing is not how I’d be catching them right now. Lots of small skittish males but hard to find good fish locked on. They’ve been hammered this year especially with the limited clear water. Better ways to catch them now. We’ll see if another decent wave moves up.

Welp I went and had what I’ll consider an awesome day. Had blanked previous two trips. Today I put down in glade and found what’s I’d call some brush towards the back. Ran a chatterbait through it until I lost too many and then switched to a 4 inch swim bait. Caught about 20. Biggest about 4 pounds.

Your post between asking about Fork and your report on how the trip went is only 6 hours apart. Did you post while you were at the lake, or was it a short trip and you live real close?
