Looking at a XI5. Can I use the power plug off my Motorguide Great White? Do I need to hook it up to depth to utilize anchoring feature?

I used the power plug that was on my previous motor that matched my boat so yes. Anchor features will work without linking to a depth finder but you get a lot more features and memory for waypoints and trails by linking via NMEA to a compatible Lowrance graph. With the gateway kit you can control the trolling motor from the graph, or graphs that it is linked to.

That is what I thought but I believe my units are Gen1

You can use it as is and later upgrade the graph or graphs if you want the added features. You won't need the gateway kit if not linking now. I would get the motor with the pinpoint GPS, it can be added if you find a motor without it but it is needed for the GPS features.

That is the plan. I don't need a TM that does not have it. I have one of those. I fish live bait a lot and my fishing partner and myself are getting a little old to be hauling up an 18 lb anchor

The spot lock is great and the 5 foot jog feature is handy also
