I bought a used Abu Garcia Revo SX for a great price. As soon as I got it home I performed a basic cleaning and lube. After a few days, I noticed that there was a slight grinding feeling when retrieving. Not bad, but noticeable. When I bomb out a heavier bait, I watch the rod tip pulse and vibrate more than usual.

I'm not very experienced with this, so I'd like to get some opinions. My thought is the spool isn't spinning freely and there's a bad bearing. Maybe dirty from sitting unused for so long. Should I remove the bearings and soak them in a solution, or replace them?

Or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

It could def be a spool bearing that is dirty or wore out...they are cheap enough to replace or upgrade to boca bearings...you can pull them and soak them to clean them out too...if itโ€™s the bearing on the spool itself you will need some spool pin pliers to remove it

Or you can send it to me for a full service and I will go through the bearings for ya

Most likely dirty bearings.
I would soak all 3 bearings.
Once dry a drop of oil and see if that is better.

Thank you,

I soaked the bearings, oiled them up, and added a bit of grease to the line guide and main gear (through the port).

The reel feels silky smooth on a normal speed retrieve, but feels gritty as hell when reeling super slow. You can feel pops through the entire body, into the rod.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

What kind of oil did you use?

Thank you,

Get it to me and I will take a look at no charge.
I think you have too much oil and shouldn't have any grease on the bearings.

Thank you,
Shawn Smith

I don't know for sure though.

This feels like a binding, then a pop. Very minute, but noticeable on super slow retrieves.
I was thinking maybe bearings or a line guide pawl issue?

I finally got around to taking apart the worm shaft and giving it a good cleaning. Today I took it out for a test ride.
Now it's smooth as silk.

Thank you!
