So, my most recent trip I had one of my rods that I don’t use as often with me and it’s spoiled up with 6lb mono. I’ve been using micro line and super line almost exclusively since last Fall. I used the mono rigged rod because it already had the jig and plastic that I was gonna try. When I was getting bit, I would set the hook like normal and I lost 6 straight fish. I started setting the hook pretty hard and notice that I was bringing a lot more fish to hand. Anyone else notice this phenomenon? I know the mono has more stretch compared to the superlines, but it was surprising how much of a difference it made!

I have a light braid/mono setup and intend to start trying a little more braid but tying those knots with light line was kicking my butt. I found a version of the alberto knot (lazy alberto) that seems to be way more suited for joining light line. No way I can do an FG. I was out practicing in my yard,, lots of really big trees. I made a few cast ok then for sure hung a tree.. tightened down the drag to break off and to my surprise, broke off the weight and the knot held.

I mainly use mono but I do have some reels with braid. For me mono works best.

Jag...I just use 4-6 lb test Fluorocarbon (Stren) , and don't have any complaints. I do spray it down pretty good with a line conditioner (Line & Lure) when its new to reduce memory...

For my Ultralight rigs I use Nanofil which is a no-stretch line. I direct tie a mono leader on it however. I like the Nanofil because it is very small diameter
for pound test and has super casting characteristics. Also, as you mention NO stretch. This is not only good for hook setting but also valuable
on sensitivity. Much easier to feel the bite. I use 6 pound Nanofil with 4 to 6 pound leader.

I use nothing but mono on my ultra lights while fishing for sunnies! 4 and 6 lb test line.

I use 8 lbs mono for my drift fishing.

I use 6 lbs mono on my lightweight rod. It's great for multi species in my experience. Mono is the only line I use. Cheap and readily available.

I use 4# and 6# original Clear Blue Stren on my UL rigs. I tried braid once but didn't like it.

I ordered some high dollar sinking braid to spool up on my ultra light outfit. A friend of mine uses it and says it really added to the his distance and lets the light lures and drop shots sink faster than six lb fluorocarbon or mono. I thought the 6 lb fluorocarbon and/or mono was very small diameter until I got ahold of this stuff. Wished I could seen it before I spent the money. It really, really small and I can't see if well enough to spool it up haha.

Yeah, that Nanofil is so thin and has zero stretch. You have to change the way you set the hook. Just a flip of the wrist does it. You set the hook to hard and odds are likely that one of your knits is gonna fail. I also set the drag a bit looser with braid. When I tried my mono set up after all those months with braid, I found that I really had set the hook harder than I was use to to get the fish to hand as often. I just thought that was interesting and may help my fellow ultra light enthusiasts.
