Early in February I caught my current PB for smallmouth buffalo. Fished off Miller rd on Hubbard and despite the cold and wet conditions i.e. scattered showers, little to no wind (see first pic), and cold temperature... caught 2 buffs. Only one successfully landed because of a foul hook that got off right by the edge of the water.

Give a man a fish he can eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and you can get rid of him for the entire weekend!

Awesome, awesome fish. Congrats on the PB Andrew! cheers
Tommar, everything I've seen or heard is that Falcon apparently has no Buffalo? Not sure why. If you want to catch one I'd try elsewhere.

Catch and release. The dream - to catch one of every species of Freshwater fish in our great state! If only I can resist Carp...

Homemade Bait Recipes

Oats Pack Simple Setup
This mixture is one of my favorites and my go-to for many years, as it was my first learned really successful bait. I use this on most venues because of its simplicity. This is a great starting point for most anglers.

• 42oz Old Fashioned Oats
• 1 can of Cream Corn

Extra Creamy Oats Pack Setup
This mix, similiar to the previous, makes a bigger mixture, making it ideal for longer sessions. If you are planning on staying at a venue for an above average amount of time, I recommend using a mix like this because of the moisture you are adding in, it stays for longer if covered, making it less likely to dry out.

• 42oz Old Fashioned Oats
• 18oz Quick Oats
• 2 cans of Cream Corn
• 1 can of Whole Kernel Corn

Oats Pack Setup Flavored
This mixture is identical to the previous. However, I often add a flavor to bait when fishing large bodies of water. Some venues are harder than others, and this will give you the confidence you need. However it might turn your hands red. I used this successfully for many trips and really see a great result when fishing with flavored baits. This works best if allowed to set up for 30 minutes, as it sticks to the oats better when set up properly. This will get great scent throughout the water column attracting carp to your bait in the surrounding area.

• 42oz Old Fashioned Oats
• 18oz Quick Oats
• 2 cans of Cream Corn
• 1 can of Whole Kernel Corn
• 2 packs of Strawberry Jell-O

Jessie's Method Mix (this is what you are seeing pictured in above post)
This mixture was shared with me by a great friend. It is simple yet effective, and adds that sweetness that carp love making this one of my favorite mixes.

• 1/2 Bag of Fruity Pebbles Cereal
• 42oz Old Fashioned Oats
• 1 can of Cream Corn
• 1 can Whole Kernel Corn

Basic Grits Pack Bait Mix
This mixture is a common mixture I have used that makes decent sized packs. Grits are a great binder so naturally, this works well if you want bigger sized balls of pack bait.

• 18oz Instant Grits
• 9oz Quick Grits
• 1 can of Cream Corn

I make something similar to Jessie's. I use store brand fruit loops, crushed a bit first in the plastic bag mixed with about twice the weight of Quick Oats. I "wet it" to the right consistency with the liquor left over from boiling deer corn, and just "moosh" in some of the deer corn before I pack it around the sinker when I'm fishing.
