It was such a perfect day that I had to stop work early and get my son on the water about 4pm. Had to coach him on how to feel the bite again. Either they were biting more subtly this time or he'd forgotten what it feels like. Same method as last time - windblown point (wind was a different direction this time, so different side of the lake). Sandbass were active in about 20-26 feet of water initially, and over the next couple of hours they moved in shallower. When we stopped at 6pm, we were catching in 12-15 feet.
Still lots of dinks. The keepers all showed signs of having returned from spawning (beaten up sides). I'm used to seeing this during the last week of April, so it's a bit early to me. No, I'm not complaining. Basic sandbass tackle - white slabs in sizes from 3/4 oz to 2 ounce.
Had seven good keepers when we got in, and was throwing back quite a few that were 10-11". Gave them to a shore fisherman who said he was trying to catch dinner. Have been fiddling with different methods of mounting the transducer and battery for the Garmin. Finally satisfied with the transducer mounted on the stern and have the battery stowed up front. Now I just have to run these cables inside the yak and drill a couple holes (hello silicone sealant!) and ought to be set.
Unrelated to the actual fishing, had to spend a bit of time repeating to a certain teenager that yes, he can get any kind of kayak or boat that he wants with his own money. But that means that he has to get a job to earn the money.
