As a lot of us are doing right now, I am spending a lot of time cleaning and organizing the Bass Hole. In the back, in the corner, in the dark I found some original pre-rigged Creme worms with the beads & propeller. I got to thinking about the hundreds of fish I caught on that purple/firetail rig.
I had to look and to my surprise, they are still being made - even in a 2 1/4" Ned Rig size. I just may have to go back to my roots...

There is no telling how many Bass in farm ponds that I have caught on those. They loved just a slow roll steady retrieve. Started tournament fishing at age 14 and tried fishing them on the TN. River Back Waters and Ky. Lake. I can't remember ever catch a Bass on them there. Caught a nice 4 lb fish on one in Spence back in the day past the gravel road that cuts one of the creek off. Had to get out and drag the boat across the road in about 6 inches of water to get behind there; so it was basically like a pond and got one to bite.

Man those cream worms and the pre-rigged worms that are somewhat kinked w/ 3 hooks were deadly back in the day.

Here is a story about it. There was an older gentleman in town that was friends with my Grand Father. He was the only one that Grandpaw would let come and fish and the deal was he had to take and teach me. He was allowed to come once a month. He and Grandpaw would sit out the barn all afternoon and sip on Old Crow. Just about an hour before dark he would take me and let me pick one of his Popping Hand Made Bugs to throw. I got to keep it every time if I caught a fish on it. There were 4 post sitting off the Levee that supported the over flow pipes. Big Bass loved that spot and I caught my first big fish there on the Bug. He is the one that put me onto the Cream pre-rigged spinner worm. Wasn't long after that the Big Bass bit the worm right by those post. Got to catch this 9 lb fish twice. Grand Mother was with me and brought her old camera. Got my picture in the weakly paper holding that fish. We had to put posted signs up around the whole place to keep people out and that didn't work very well. I still maintain that 4 acre pond in TN. on the farm. I will try the worm the next time I go. Still have some new one on a card. The were sold at Gibsons on a Card of 12 in Purple, Natural, Black, Natural with Chart. tail and Black with yellow dots.

We used to catch plenty on the purple, standing in the marina boat slips letting them pendulum swing free fall painfully slow do nothing but effective.

A couple of weeks ago I decided I'd had enough so I headed up to a buddy's tank. On the way, I stopped for gas and noticed a guy stocking the fishing shelf. So I went over and on impulse I bought a white, single blade H&H. I caught about 15 on it that afternoon.
Last Saturday morning my son had come home for Easter so we decided to go. I ran up to the Lucas Food Mart and bought 2 more. We went old school and caught right at 40 in a couple of hours.

I caught my share of bass and big bull frogs on those creme spinner worms. This brings back memories! We could catch bullfrogs twice as fast as using a gig with the creme spinner worms.
