How many of you guys target yella cats with rod and reel? I do in the river on lines but have never targeted them specifically on the lake. Always used cut bait in the lake. Are they harder to come by in lakes or do you still target same type of areas? Logs, timber, and rocks?

I have done much better in creeks and rivers, but maybe because that is where I usually fish for flatheads. I would try same type of areas as you mentioned in the 4 to 8 foot zone. would definitely use live bait

Target them on the lake fairly frequently. Fish anywhere from 4-18’ in areas with lot of rocks and structure. Use big live baits like sunfish, bullheads, carp, even drum.

Check my calendar as well, as to WHEN to best try for them. YC days on the calendar, as well as my PYC (Personal YellowCat days) according to the ingrained pattern of when they "roam-feed". See ... Lynn's Catfish Calendar ... currently on p.2 of listings here in the catfish section.
I even have bass fishermen using it, as they also like to catch Yellows.

In lakes BIG live shad is a must where I fish. Just find the muddiest cove and fish the live bait 2' off bottom. Find a place where cove necks down and is around 12' deep.
PB flathead 34.5 lbs - I know it's small but it was still the record for Lake Travis when I caught it!
PB Blue 58.5 lbs jugline 43.5 lbs on R&R which was the other Lake Travis record when caught.
