First trip of the year on April 14th. Had my son with me on a cold, windy morning. I had just done everything to my new to me Ranger 350V boat and motor. I used her last year and she was rough. Good motor but the boat itself was in bad shape. Raised the deck. Added storage. New carpet. I ordered some vinyl wrap as the gel coat is not good. Wrapping her will be the best way to shine her up. Did lower unit oil. There were no O rings for the two LU screws so I need to check that out? New spark plugs. Added skeg guard to my Merc 115 tower of power (the person i got it from clearly had an issue one day as the Skeg was worn down to about 2 inches). Was excited for her maiden voyage after improvements. Plan A was to launch at Big Sandy and go north to some shallow water. We put in. Boat starts up like a champ. I go to plane her out, and I can't get the boat to go past idle speed?. She isn't bogging down. She just wont respond to the control. Maybe control cables? it is an old boat, so I have another project to keep me busy during the Corona Break. So we were limited to idle speed. Plan A in the trash so plan B was to put across the lake and fish shallow water on anchor. Drift across the lake to the other side and try another shallow water stop, and then go home. The drift was non productive. Both anchor spots were mildly productive We could count on a bite every 20 minutes or so. Obviously you don't get them all. Lots of drops and a big one that took us into the wood. Never saw that one. Good enough for a good fish fry though. 8 nice blues between 20 and 27 inches and a 15 inch yellow bullhead from 8 am to 3 pm. When the sun came out, the bite stopped. why is it that fish hate nice weather? My son looked up the lake Lewisville record for Bullhead, and it is non existent. State record is 16 inches, so i guess he is the Lewisville champ - LOL. And that bullhead could be the champ by next year as we let her go! Not super excited about a bullhead, but a record is a record right? First bullhead I have caught on a large circle hook with gizzard shad head. Guess he was hungry. So today no fishing for me. I am going to check those cables out. My guess is the throttle cable is frayed or seized as it kind of works thank God. It will shift although it is definitely tight. I just can't give her juice. At least we were able to putt around and salvage a trip. For those of you that work on your boat. Does that sound right? Bad cables? I have had boats before that bog down, and that is not this. She runs great without sputtering. I just can't punch it and I could last year.

Trophy fish pics are cool to have no matter the species. Your boy will never forget it even a Bullhead:..my wife caught a record drum when we were fishing on Tom’s boat 4 yrs ago. She said it was a trash fish and shrugged it off but I told her anytime you got a record sized fish, no matter the species, it’s something you don’t see very often and should be respected. I told her I had never caught one
that big and I considered her catching that big ol drum a feather in her cap. Boy is she proud of that fish now ! Lol. Thanks Tom!

he took a video of himself measuring it with his iphone. Can't figure out how to get that video on here. It was saved in a weird format. Boat ended out being a fairly ez fix. Temporary for now, but I am going to have to do the control cables. I have them positioned so the throttle works for now anyway. Just tight.. Picture 1 shows the broken piece which is why it came dislodged from the bracket, but there is a bit of that plastic left, so I can get it to bite and get the bracket back on. If that cable is not in the bracket, it will not advance the throttle mechanism in the motor. Picture 2 shows it back in the bracket until it falls out again. And picture 3 shows the top of the throttle assembly. That piece pivots on that bolt and their is not nut securing it? Don't like it, but i can't pop it off either. so maybe it is suppose to be that way? Researching that.

Glad y'all could salvage the day. Today was cold, but no wind at all. The drift produced 3 keepers. Two 3.5 pounders and a 6 pounder. Sure wish the fish loved good weather lol

Hope you get your boat figured out and congrats on the record bullhead!

Replace that bushing in the last pic, if it popped out once it will pop out again. I know from experience.

Giant bullheads!?

Nice!!! I like it.

I also did not know there were any in Lewisville. But I guess it makes sense...They are in every Creek and pond, canal, and bathtub left outside around the lake, why wouldn't there be some in the lake?
