We were at fork yesterday and found a pair on a bed rubbing and rolling around on each other doing their thing yesterday. Both were about the same size, 5-6 lb. Both stayed as a pair throughout the day as we checked on them a couple times. One was staying in the bed more than the other, the other just off the bed. Were these fish "catchable" or were they just in the middle of doing it?

Uncatchable, in my opinion. They were executing the actual spawn, and they are virtually oblivious to the world while doing so.

Agreed - I've only seen this twice - once this year - and they seem to have no clue as to anything else going on.

I just massage them with a 1/2oz tungsten weight and speedcraw. They seem to like that. I play a little Luther Vandross as well. They still won't bite.

Seems like ya have to wait for it to be over. Last year on fork we passed on a 7 and a 5 that were doing the same thing came back few hours later and caught the 7 after she had finished.

been my experience that 90% or more won't bite but I have caught a couple over the years while they were rolling around in the act....once I whacked one of the fish upside the head with a mag lizard and she wheeled and bit it....the other one bit something I never would have thought would work...my buddy had just got back from the fishing as no boater when BASS fished Amistad back in early 2000;s...he told me lot of guys really whacked them on a 7 inch senko and gave me some to try... saw a 3lb and 6lb fish actually spawning on Seminole and I threw that big senko past the bed and drug it up underneath both fish...both fish wheeled and each grabbed one end of the senko...the 6lb fish grabbed the end with the hook in it and I caught her....tried to catch the other fish but he was too spooked to bite...that's been several years ago and I haven't had any opportunities to fish for any fish actually spawning since...

It was something to witness to be honest Would this be considered voyeurism?

Use that and just claim you weren't sight fishing?

I don't care how good the room service menu looked, I'm not ordering during the middle of wild hotel-sex.

The biggest bass I caught from Houston County Lake was 10 that they were doing that exact thing. Rolling around in bed. Took a long while for the big one(her) to hit. A looooong time. If she hadn’t looked so huge I wouldn’t have spent way over an hour on her. There were many other fishermen cruising around looking for/at beds so I didn’t want to “come back later”. Worth it!
