I had another great day on lake o the Pines this morning. The timber was full of black crappie. I knew my buddy Seth Vanover was on the lake with his son so I sent him a text to let him know where I was catching them. He text back a picture of his son holding a big channel cat and said they were beating them up under corks. I decided to give that a try for a change of pace.
I had a jar of Stubbys that has been in my boat for nearly a year.
Pulled up in some shallow cover out of the wind and caught them as fast as I could get them in the boat.

It was a blast and it never let up. I don't know how many I caught before the rain ran me off 50 or 60 at least.
I was throwing them back as my freezer is full.

Thanks Marty! Stubby and I usually use bait that is older or sat in the boat for awhile. You would think we only used fresh stuff! The old works great also

A couple of years ago I had nearly a full container of Stubbys that I mistakenly left out
in the heat all summer and most of the fall. When I found it, it was a mahogany color, nearly black.
It was dry also so I added a little vegetable oil and mixed until it was soft enough to use and went cat fishing. It worked as good as if it was fresh. I caught a lot of cats using that old can of Stubbys.
Don't ever throw it out. It can be resuscitated .

Ive never used that. Usually use danny kings or j piggs. Is stubbys kind of like catfish charlies where you need a tube and sponge on a treble?

Stick a knife or something down into it to make a couple slits. Add a LITTLE bit of water and it will come back

Sounds good. Will have to try some out. Does it stay on the hook pretty good in river current? Not very fast moving current.

It will. Keep it cool before you put on the hook in hotter weather.
