I have 2 of the Shimano NASCI. They are very smooth. Don't use them as much as I used to, but never had an issue.

Get a Shimano or Daiwa. 3500 size. The bigger spool makes for a smoother drag (very important with tiny line) and easier line management.

IMO, the best bang for the buck is the Daiwa Fuego ($100). I have a Shimano Stradic CI4+ ($230), and these two reels are very similar even though they are different brands. I now have 4 of the Fuegos, and I've never had a problem with any of them. Good, smooth drag. Honestly, hard to believe it's a $100 reel.

I have a Pflueger President in a 40 series.. KVD uses a 40 sized reel for drop shotting.. good enough for me. For sure in your price range.

Shimano Stradic Ci4 30 for me, too. Also have had success with the Abu Garcia Revo. I prefer pairing them with a ML 7' rod. No sharp hookset required, just a steady, sweeping motion to one side.

I was seriously about to make this same post just for a baitcast. That's for getting me answers first.

I have a Fuego and never got to use it. Wife took it for herself. She loves it if that matters.

Hey Jason, what size Fuego are you using and for what other techniques? I have just recently started using spinning rigs (hate them but they are another tool). I have a 2500 series with 30lb braid to 10 lb flouro for wacky/senko stuff.
