My dad’s got a 6’9” medium heavy spinning rod that he uses for skipping Senkos and smaller jugs around docks, under trees, etc. He uses either 12 or 14 pound test on this rod. His current reel is too small to handle this diameter line, so he’s looking to change reels. What are some decent options around $75?

I like the Shimano Sahara for a mid priice spinning reel it would be around the range you mention. I think you would need to get a larger size Sahara to handle 12-14 lb line.

Sedona is good too in that price range. 3500/4000? (The bigger one) will handle that line OK.

See you on the lake and have a great day!

I have a better Shimano from the Sahara I'd sell you for $75. Hasn't been used much. I just don't throw a spinner much anymore and I have 2 of these.

Pretty sure it's the NAS3000HGFB model.

DM me if you're interested.

Pflueger President. I've used 4 of them for several years now without a single hick-up!

Greg, tried to PM you concerning your NASCI 3000 reel. You are “Over PM limit”. Won’t drive to Arlington for a used reel but I have to be in Burleson this afternoon. Text me ASAP......Neil (817)988-1707

I asked similar question a couple of weeks ago. Bought the Pflueger President and so far I am very impressed. Or rather, my wife is very impressed as the reel was for her. She was having issues with a baitcaster and still managed to have issues with a spinning reel. None of this was the reel's fault. At this point I am thinking she could blow up a Zebco but we're digging in with the Pflueger.

I love my Shimano Stradics but the Pflueger President is a nice reel and for the price a very good option.
It should give you many years of use with no problems.

I really like the Okuma spinning reels. They are a great price and have held up really well. One of mine is about 10 years old, tons of scars but still working smoothly.

Epixor is the model that I use

The president is an awesome reel, I have 2 but I don't really care for anything over a size 3000 for freshwater ( except big cats). So my thinking would be towards checking the smaller diameter lines instead of have to get a huge reel. I know you said 12-14 test but for example an 8lb fireline has the diameter of 3lb mono. So you can see there are options in having a not so big reel and move up in lb test.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. One question about the Pfleuger president: The biggest size, the 40, says the max line capacity is 10lb test? I know these are generally more suggestions than facts, i just want to make sure it can handle the bigger size lines.
