This is my third trip in a week's time and the fishing has been amazing each time out. On this trip, I fished Port O' Connor earlier in the day. After I got off of the water, I decided I wasn't through fishing yet. I drove back to Houston to exchange out my tackle box from day fishing to night fishing. I was originally going to fish Matagorda the next day but the bite was slow in Port O' Connor so I changed my plan to night fish Galveston instead (the plan change was a good move on my part as the fishing was definitely amazing for the night fishing).

I made it back to Houston and exchanged out my tackle box so that I was prepared for night fishing. The kayak was already with me so all was packed and ready to go for the night trip. I immediately headed out to the Buc-ee's to get some gas. Once I arrived to the Buc-ee's (Exit 17), I pulled out my gloves to wear to avoid any contamination from the Coronavirus. Once I finished gassing up the SUV, I headed to Galveston. Once I arrived to my destination, the time was around 8:30 pm. I saw some kayakers coming off of the water so I walked over to talk with them (standing my distance of course). There was a husband and wife talking to this young kid (3rd grader) and I got curious so I walked over to see if I could be of some assistance. This child was lost. I work for a school district and currently working in the elementary setting so I took a personal interest in this at this point. The child new his last night, his elementary school he attended, but didn't know his parents phone numbers. I immediately called 911 to notify the police. It didn't take very long for the police to arrive. All of us decided to hang out and watch the child while the police tried to find this kid's family. This of course prolonged us getting on the water but I didn't care. All that mattered to me at this point was finding this kid's family. About 30 - 45 minutes later, the child was reunited with his family. The police located them and all ended well!!

By this time, I was able to get started on getting my stuff on my kayak. I wasn't in any rush to get the yak on the water. I wanted to take my time and make sure I didn't forget anything. Let's face it, I've been up for almost 24 hours and I probably was slightly tired. You would have never known that though as I wanted to fish so badly! smile Finally, I was ready to go and I backed my trailer in the water at the boat launch, slid the yak off of the PVC, and into the water it went. I have a rope attached to my kayak front handle so I can pull it back to shore and then go park the car (No lifting involved, that's what I'm talking about!!).

Now I am on the water heading to a bunch of under/over water lights. I'm a little frustrated when I get to the lights as there is this couple on this long sort of looking canoe/skiff looking boat. It had a small motor on back with a trolling motor on the front. I briefly saw some electronics on this vessel as well. For something as small as this, this dude had it all decked out. He would hit the lights then burn rubber out of there leaving the rest of us screwed! I was really pissed about this person not practicing good etiquette when around other fishermen on the water. I would of done more but when this couple left, I saw them leaving and heading back to the launch spot. At this point, the damage had been done and there was nothing I could do. I kept on fishing. As I went to the next canal, a much bigger boat was fishing the lights toward the opening of the canals. I think the boat realized he couldn't get into the canals without spooking the fish so they took their chances on the outer lights. I saw no kayakers out where I was at just those two boats. Once that boat left the area, I was finally able to get some quality fishing in. By this time it was around 11:30 pm at night. I'm in a Hobie so I am able to cover some ground fairly quickly for a kayak.

All in all the bite went very well through the night. As the night progressed, the fishing just kept on getting better and better. If there was no such things as limits, I could of caught my limit in reds x4. Finally, I ended my night with a limit of reds and trout. I met up with a friend and he did pretty good as well. We both got off of the water around 6:00 am. The drive home was pretty good considering that I have been up for over 24 hours. It's hard to get tired on a drive home when you have a great night such as what I just went through. Thinking about all the fun catches I had made for a easy drive home. smile

Now that was an exciting night! clap

Thanks and if interested, it's easier if you contact me. I'm always finding time to get out on the water. If you are interested in going night fishing, hit me up and let's chat. I do all sorts of kayak fishing (freshwater, inshore saltwater, offshore saltwater, night fishing, etc.). 832-588-7091

Why daydream when you can get out and go kayak fishing. Hit me up and let's go fish, 832-588-7091. I'm not a guide, just another person that likes to kayak fish. smile
