Think lake Athens shallow. Do you? And not talking about weightless.. that’s different I have No confidence in it unless I’m fishing deep enough to not be in the grass. Trying to convince myself otherwise, but I’m hard headed .. what say you?

Shallow grass (less than 5ft?) Only time I tend to use a Trig in shallow grass is if there's a specific target Examples: Isolated patch of shallow grass, isolated lily pads in a field of grass, timber targets in the shallow grass, or a hole in a big field of grass
If it's big fields of shallow grass, there are other presentations that are more efficient swim jig split shot/mojo rig rage rig swim bait chatter bait wake bait/shallow square bill topwaters/frog

Personally, I hate to fish in grass. I will fish a texas rig on the edge or open back side of grass, a heavy weighted punch rig under the grass, or wacky texas rig with light weight above the grass or on the edges of the grass. I'm with you, in the grass, I fight the set up more than I can fish it.

I like a light rig. with the weight pegged so I can cast it long distance if need be; so the weight does not slide up the line. I want it to free fall slower than a Trig and come over the pods without disturbing the grass. The shade here is the key and the grass is an ambush piece of cover. Bass hide at the edges and will take plastics that best mimics the bait fish that also use the pods.
I use a Short 1/16 oz. Crig to about 12 inches with a Fluke. Fish it around and over the top of all grass pods and straight edges of grass that grow to about 5 ft. in the shallows. My other choice is a 1/16 oz. Wacky Rig on the same shallow grass. I have Dustin at NXT Customs pour a Skinny 6" Senko for this application.
Punching in shallow grass has never produced a heavy stringer of fish for me. Punching Grass needs to be tall and even then you have to be on the right run of it. This takes a lot of searching and eliminating the deep grass runs. I use a Heavy short Drop Shot in 1 oz. for this application with a Hoo Daddy Jr. in Watermelon Neon. I consider deep grass at least 15 ft tall. Then you can follow that grass to the back of some ditches where it is matted in the shallows and occasionally pull a big fish or two out of 5 to 10 ft of water with the grass matted on the surface. If I am pulling decent fish out of the deep stuff that is just under the surface; then I continue to the mats in the back. Most of the time you are wasting your time unless the canyon is perfectly set up for it and the fish are using that route feeding on Crayfish under the mat.

Sure do. I am not limited to depth of water. Some of the bigger fish I have caught came on a deep diving CB in 2 to 3 foot of water. I throw the presentation that I HOPE the fish will like. Not always, but more times than not, I get bit Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck

Trying to convince myself otherwise, but I’m hard headed .. what say you? Have caught multiple overs on Athens on a t-rig with a 1/4 oz weight in the shallow grass out to grass in 6 ft. I love fishing a worm through the grass.

I mostly Use 1/16 and 1/8 oz tungsten for my t rig and yes I fish it in the dirt. The only time I go Up in weight is high winds or deep water.

I throw a TRig in the shallow grass from 6” to 6ft all the time. Definitely peg with a light weight. Favorite is a 1/8 oz pegged Trickworm...
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways with a fishing rod in one hand, 10# LMB in the other, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and yelling "Wow! What a Ride!

I have 2 Texas rigs tied on all of the time. One with a 5/16 ounce weight on baits like a Baby Brush Hog that I am wanting to cover a lot of water and make long casts. Another one with a 1/2 ounce weight for my flipping baits when I am covering heavier cover close to the boat like flooded vegetation, bushes etc. I probably concentrate on water 4 feet or less most of the time and especially this time of year have already caught fish in about a foot to foot and a half. Never too shallow for bass.

1/8 ounce weight t rigged is deadly in shallow grass. I always use the lightest weight I can get away with.

Find the grass, find the bass, right?
1/4 oz on a 3/0 offset worm with a Rage Craw brings me joy.
Upsize the weight as needed. I like light line too, if the conditions permit.
Lately it’s been a 3/8 in this wind.

Chris, absolutely throw a light t-rig into the grass and pull it off the edge. Works like a charm at Athens 1/16 or 1/8..... absolutely
