If some of the sunfish are gonna spawn on the back side of this full moon south of Waco, I’m guessing they are gonna bits on bugs and bug imitations. That being said, what have y’all seen hitting the water or in the grass lines and tree lines? I’m gonna try and do a bug crank/topwater vid so any profiles and/or colors would be greatly appreciated.

I am fishing a lot of small rivers and creeks. I have noticed Rios are starting to pair up in the creeks. Seeing a few sunfish on nest in some of the creeks but on other creeks no nesting at all. I figured by late April, early May that a lot of the sunfish will be spawning. As for the rivers I am still catching some nice Bluegill and Redbreast in 6 to 8 feet of water. Nothing by overhanging tree limbs or shallow water. Also not seeing any fish on nest in the rivers I have fished. Again late April, early May a lot of the sunnies will be in shallower water and on nest. I also think the Rios by Mid May will be on nest. Seeing a lot of Rios but trying to get them to bite is another story. As for bait. Torry, I only use worms. thumb

Side Note: Looking forward to your upcoming video! coolio

That's where fishing with a fly rod is so incredible. You can tie and fish with all kinds of Bugs. Hoppers, dragonflies, spiders, ants, mayflies, poppers, frogs, etc. can all be tied out of foam in very small sizes. Nothing like seeing a Redbreast coming out of the water so they can engulf the fly from above. In addition to that very small subsurface flies can be tied to imitate all the types of nymphs, helgamites, worms, etc. The hatch charts can be very beneficial to your research.

Yes Sir. "Match The Hatch"!

Side Note: My best colors that have worked for me during the spring bite have been Red,Yellow,Black, and Chartreuse. I try to use fly's or other baits based on the bugs present during the time i am fishing.

Matching the hatch is a good thing. Including using the colors of the insects that are hatching.

Well, I think the last couple cold fronts knocked the bugs off the menu for a bit. We went out to Dunlap and nothing was biting on top. At least, not biting bugs. Thanks for all the input y’all. It won’t be long!
