Taking the yak out there tomorrow. This will be my first time there. Any tips would be highly appreciated.

Andy or Mudd will prob be by soon to comment but for me the lake has been really been hit or miss. Water temps are great and the lake looks amazing with the salvania not a factor in some areas. A wacky rigged black/blue senko cast up to the trees seems to be the best technic recently. I caught a few flipping a speed craw and even had a few bites on a frog the other day! I hope to go Sat pending the weather but yeah just go and have fun! Send me a pm if you like of where you are launching from and I'll try to help.

Do you have a GPS? If you are the kind of yakker that really gets it going, you'll need one. Get a map from the local store, too.

This will sound like a dumb question I’m sure, but do you ask that because I could get lost or because I won’t have any cell service? Again this is my first time there and I’m going solo. I can yak miles and miles in a day.

Caddo lake has pretty good cell service so you will be fine. Some people have problems getting turned around because the boat lanes you have to follow in a big boat. Where are you launching? You can come with just senkos in a variety of colors to catch bass. Wacky rig and don’t be afraid to get up in the islands.

Thank you, yeah I really don’t plan to get turned around considering how slow I’ll be going. I understand it can happen and I appreciate the mention of the issue in the first place. I honestly had not thought of that possibility. I’ll probably not stray too far from home. But I do want to know what this Government Ditch is about. I see where it is on the map. Is it not a tiny passing or is it big enough for outboards?

If you want to fish that area you need to launch at shady glade or Johnsons ranch. The government ditch is about two boats wide and basically the mouth of big cypress where it dumps into caddo. There has been quite a bit of current so you may have a tough time and have to be careful of idiots running wide open through the ditch. If you launch at shady just start fishing you will have a chance at a big girl.

You'll have a blast and be sure to bring a camera or you phone! The scenery alone is breathtaking. You can launch at crickets camp and fish buzzard bay in the yak and probably do good. Another option is launch at Tuckers and fish old folks playground.. Listen to Bassmanrudy in the post above and NEVER underestimate a wacky worm on caddo. It's a MUST have lure to take with you and like him some form of black/blue fleck seems to usually work best for me. I grew up fishing Caddo and sure wish I was going with you!

There are no dumb questions. Oh yea, except the ones that ask what the best of anything is. It's amazing how turned around you can get on any body of water. After awhile, all shore lines look the same and all of the cypress trees can, too. Caddo has lots of poles with "street signs" on them. If you get a map, all of these poles are on them.
